This may sound like a silly question but I'm wanting to get a puppy and I live in an apartment. I know you aren't supposed to let the puppy around dogs
until they have all of their shots or take it to dog parks but is it okay for me to let the dog go outside and use the bathroom or should I make it use potty
pads until all of its shots are done? I'm just worried about it getting parvo since that's very easy for a puppy to obtain and since there are other
dogs who pee/poo on the grassy areas in my apartment complex I wanted to double check...

Chip used potty pads until she had all her shots.

potty pads. if oprah's got can get parvo so can yours!! besides in an apt. setup potty pads are so much easier in the first place.

I think by 3 months. Chip took longer because she's a pit bull and she had to get more distemper shots then normal.

I just wanna say I think it's great that you're doing this research and asking questions before you get your dog!

It's definitely beneficial though to research on specific breeds (espec. since I need a dog that's smaller and is good for apartment life), and also on what to do the first year especially since the training and health care is crucial during that time period.

NOT by 3 months. Depends on when they receive the first set. If they start at 6 weeks, then need boosters every 3 weeks until they're at least 16 weeks. At
that point they then can get the Rabies vaccine. Then you're supposed to wait another couple weeks to socialize them and what not.
PS: You do NOT need to use potty pads. That's ridiculous. Take the dog outside to piss. Just don't let it step in any poo. |

You can also wipe it's paws with baby wipes after taking it out. I would much rather do that than use potty pads.

If you train it on potty pads first, it's going to be terribly difficult to train it to go outdoors later.

I have a balcony where I set it up. I just have to open the sliding doors, my dog goes out, does his business, and comes back in. I just clean it every couple of days, and it's been working perfectly for the past few months. Both my former dog (whom I had to put down) and my new dog learned how to use it in a couple of weeks. |

Chip used potty pads and I didn't have trouble getting her to go outside.
