Do any of you have that one person in your life who is basically just an acquaintance who seems to bring up God, Jesus or religion in every conversation?
Honestly, right now, I do not want to hear how Jesus loves me and will take care of me. Ugh....just venting.

Yes. I think it's great if people are that confident and actually find comfort in those words and feelings, but they should be able to understand that not
everyone is that way.
I know you're going through some hard times...I hope things get better for you soon. |

Yes. And I wouldn't even mind it so much except that the people who tend to bring it up with me don't accept the fact that I'm not religious so it
always turns into them trying to convince me that they're right and I'm wrong.

I have quite a few people who say everything that happens is because of God. They are those rich religious Conservative types that I want to just smack
constantly because ...well I don't want to get into it. But yes, I know a few and I hate it because, it's not the bringing up of religion, it's the
GOD DID THIS AND YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT OR YOU ARE GOING TO BURN IN HELL! also add in the "I'm right and you are wrong" bullshit.

I seriously need a way of ending this conversation. Occasionally this person catches me on facebook and it's just all Jesus this and Jesus
that......I'm trying to be nice, but it makes conversations so uncomfortable. I think he's trying to get me to be born again or something. My support
of Obama has him on a mission or something.

Yes. What's weird is that I'm religious, and I don't even think to bring up God or Jesus into every conversation. Of course, I'm also liberal,
so I'm sure those people would try that stuff with me too.

I want to make a flair to post on my facebook to piss of some of those people with a saying of like because of the teachings of Christ, I am Liberal, or some bullshit like that |

You know what's weird? I'm really thinking about if I know at least one person who fits the description the OP has set forth, but I can't say I
really do.
None of my best friends are religious and I hardly kick it with family members who aren't immediate family (we're not religious either) outside of reunions or other family functions. Also, I try to never have deep, personal or even slightly meaningful conversations with acquaintances, religious or not, so I've never come across someone who threw it in my face like that. I mean there are always the JW's who try to mess with you on the bus/train, outside of malls or outside your fucking front door, but I ignore them or tell them I'm late for my occult meeting and can't stop and chat. Sorry this person is bothering you OP. I would tell you what I would say to this person if I were you, but I don't want to offend anyone. |

They usually give me the best advise and I'm always thankful when they're around to offer up their wisdom and knowledge. It's understandable to be frustrated if you're just not into that type of thing, but sometimes it can take a lot of years before you realize those people weren't all that annoying for spreading the good word. I used to think the same way you do, and still do from time to time... But I'm more open minded as I grow older and a little wiser. |

All of my relatives are like that. It drives me crazy. "Julie. Have you found a church yet? Are you going to church?"

I find that anyone who thinks they know best for me is an asshole. And Im probably older than most of the people in this post.
Religion is MAD personal. And to me people who lay it on thick when its not asked for are self righteous pricks, sort of like the girl in my college class who when we disagreed with her would be like, "I'll pray for you", which in her fucked up mind meant I needed help cause I didnt think like her. Thanks but no thanks. Ted Haggard was really into Jesus too. Just because it says it swears it walks with the Lord dont mean it doesnt walk with the devil too. |

JulieAnne20 wrote: As a Christian, I would never ask that and I would hate that question because there's really no purpose for it. If someone goes to church, good for them. If not, oh well. To each their own. I go to church because I want to, not to make other people happy or impress certain church-going people. I guess you can say some people go to church for the wrong reasons. Carrying the Bible and going to church every Sunday is not really the true test of faith anyway. |
