But most people tend think this way "And also, you're crazy if you think the world is just going to stop using certain words and be all kumbaya. " which is why we are still the way we are. It just hit me few days ago, and I so think I'm right. http://community.livejour...d=4627862525#t4627862525 if more people associate hateful speech to shameful immaturity, it wouldn't be much of a weapon.

It's the meaning behind them that makes them "power". Like...I've never understood the point of curse words and why it's not okay for little kids to say them when we just use them most of the time out of frustration. They only become "bad" when they're used toward/about others in a derogatory way, usually. I don't really know how to explain what I'm trying to say

I mean, I think people should still be punished for saying known derogatory words in formal settings, etc. BUT people shouldn't react so strongly.

I should just emphasis that we should be in a time now that being gay shouldn't have any words of negative connotations. There are no derogatory words for straight people, as there shouldn't be for to side. So then what does "fag" really mean? And someone said the N word is used to denigrate a black person for the fact that they are black? The word could have meant something during the disgraceful time period when slavery was acceptable, but at the time we're in now the word should't be nearly as effectual. The fact is now whites are superiors to none, so words to devalue another race shouldn't have any power. Ok, I'm off to lunch.

When I was a kid, I went to Church a lot. Well, of course, Church frowns on cussing One day I asked about that, and my pastor said that the Bible says something about not using words in anger or hatred. But that never made much sense to me, because people just susbstitute one curse word for another. Like if you mean fuck, but you say Fudge, haven't you just turned Fudge into a cussword? It's not like the Bible has a list of words you shouldn't say, it's all about the intent -- so when did society decide Fuck is bad but Fudge is okay?

We talked about "breeder" the other day--it's just a word, but when someone's using it to imply your only purpose in life is to breed, then, yes, it's insulting. We can "take back" words all we want (like queer, for example), but if someone's calling you a queer and means it in a bad way, then it's an insult, period. Like if you mean fuck, but you say Fudge, haven't you just turned Fudge into a cussword? It's not like the Bible has a list of words you shouldn't say, it's all about the intent -- so when did society decide Fuck is bad but Fudge is okay? I've never understood how "Got damn" is better than "God damn." The meaning is essentially the same, and if you believe in God, you'd think you'd also know God knows you're trying to fool God.
