They haven't even fired the cops that shot that kid in Bellaire on NYE yet. This dude won't be fired either. So sad. he should be fired.

I understand if it's protocol, it doesn't mean I have to agree w/ it.

Samantha James wrote: How on earth can you not see the real issue? Put yourself in the man's shoes. His mother-in-law is DYING. The cop was cruel and extremely insensitive and obviously on a power trip. He didn't care one iota that the man had a relative in the hospital that was dying even when hospital staff came out to confirm he was telling the truth. He could have simply written him a ticket and let him go. But instead he kept at him over and over and kept him there for almost 15 minutes (while he had a dying relative in the hospital) for absolutely no reason. So, should the cop be fired for being an asshole? Absolutely! Cops have an ethics/morals code that have to uphold. This power tripping jerk clearly broke it. |

I think the only difference is in the eyes of the officer. You can take that however you want.
Not trying to be mena, just being realistic. This just sickens me. And it happens every single day. |

I feel like there should be a spin-off PSA: "This is your brain. This is your brain on enormous amounts of Papa John's."

usually i'm on the side of the cops and not the "bad guys" but in this situation the cop was a jerk. he deserves to be fired. all the cop had to
do was write the ticket (takes what 2 minutes) if that's what he wanted to do...and send the dude on his way. if i were the cop i would have forgotten all
about the ticket and gone in the hospital with them to see if there was anything i could do to help.
i'm actually kind of glad most/all police cars are getting dash cams now. it's good for all parties involved. |

So if he's fired (for what? being a jerk?) he'll most likely get a good lawyer and then be reinstated, as he did appear to follow procedure to the freaking letter. I guarantee you everybody's gonna be looking at cops' name badges when they're pulled over now, though, and if they get this guy, God help him. It's probably safest for him to be at a desk job. |

And you need to read the other replies I posted here because you clearly haven't. What you're saying doesn't sum up my opinion at all. |

Ryan Moats is a great person also. I've met him a couple of times during fan-appreciation events the Houston Texans hold at Reliant Park. He's very
soft spoken and with a smile on his face most of the time. He was one of the nicest players I met, besides Mario Williams and Andre Johnson. It was such a
tragedy to see him lose his mother-in-law and that idiotic police officer had to be such a jackass, which most Texas police officers are. Did you hear about
that police officer from Conroe, Texas who robbed a bank? The best policeman in the state of Texas work for the HPD and that's about it.

Samantha James wrote: Exactly why he should lose his job!! It's this lack of discretion, common sense and good judgement that eventually leads to some cops shooting people in the back, tasering people who are already in handcuffs and all the other major senseless king-of-the-hill, power-tripping, evil acts that we see asshole cops commiting on the news all the time. This is a fore-shadowing of what this cop is capable of under real stress!!!!!

This was in the Dallas Morning News this morning: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/opinion/editorials/stories/DN-cop_0327edi.7341749c.html The truth is, there are Dallas cops guilty of worse fired by Kunkle, only to be reinstated on appeal. If Powell gets pink-slipped for this, he could join them. That might be a legal outcome, but in light of what the Moats incident reveals about Powell's temperament, an unjust one. What bitter irony that would be.If I can find some of the other stories about officers fired/reinstated while Kunkle was chief, I'll post them. |

Ryan Moats did a brief interview on Houston's Fox 26 sports last night, and he questioned if perhaps race played a small role in the encounter with the
police officer. He says he tried not to think about it though, saying if he were white that he'd imagine the same scenario happening. The only thing he
said before he walked out on the interview, while tearing up, was that the police officer took away precious minutes that he'll never get back. Had he made
it to his mother-in-law only minuters earlier... He would have been able to speak to her one last time before she died.
