a position needs to be filled (meaning a promotion for someone). would you take the person with the most experience, or interview three people with varying
levels, and "let the best (wo)man win!"

Experience. Team morale will be negatively affected if you give the job to someone based on gender.

oh I know that. I just mean in any other situation, it'd be the next person down the line that is interviewed and chosen. not grouping two people with mgmt
experience in with someone who has none at all, for a management position, and then telling them all in a manner that will cause tension.
I hate my job sometimes. |

Interview, interview, interview.
What irks me the most at my job is that people get promotions based on kissing ass; whether or not the managers like you. They "interview" but go into the interviews knowing who they are going to choose anyway. All I'm suggesting is to keep it fair. |

I would interview them and use their current performance + their interviews to determine who is the best fit.

yeah I guess I can see keeping it fair. I'm just gonna be kinda irked if the kid with no mgmt experience gets it because I know he's our SM's
favorite, as immature as that sounds

At my job, there was a position open for a supervisor. Lots of people applied and several made it to the final interview. Some with supervising experience and
some with none. A person with no supervising experience, and the youngest person to apply (21 I think) got the job to "diversify" the supervising
team. The whole place was in an uproar, people were PISSED about this. And the girl who got it is a nice girl, and does her current job well, but I think she
may struggle in the new position because she has no idea what is about to hit her.

I would choose several people based on experience and job performance and interview them. Sometimes there is a more talented person without as much experience.

I would absolutely interview.
Experience is important, but sometimes less experience means fewer bad habits to break. |

Depends. We'll promote internally if we feel the candidate is good for the job, not necessarily because of being there the longest.
The other store managers will generally let our DM know if we feel an associate could be good for a management position. If not, we'll start interviewing outside the company. |

I would conduct interviews and base a decision off of both the interview/their experience there/their other work experience, etc.
