My mom just told me today that she's ashamed that I don't believe. And my extended family feels pretty much the same way. I try to talk to them, but
they just can't accept it. Most of my family are pretty big Christians, so it's a big deal to them.

I've been wondering this for a while. Would an athiest have a problem with destroying a church? How much money would it take for you to destroy one, if so?

I don't have a very religious family at all, but a few of my family members have told me they don't understand how/why I don't believe in the same
things they do or whatever. That's about it though.

I don't talk about my lack of belief with anyone. It's just one of those subjects that you'll never win.
I once told a friend and she said that the only reason I'm like this is because "I don't understand it and need to be exposed more"....I just laughed under my breath. |

We don't talk about it. I think they assume I believe, but I've never come out and said I'm an atheist. I don't think they'd care one way
or the other. We aren't a very religious family overall.

I'm not sure exactly what agnostic is or if I fall into that category. I basically believe that there is some sort of higher being that created everything
but that no religion has it right and we are incapable of knowing. I'm not sure if you live on after you die.
My mom grew up assembly of god so she gets really upset at me. I said something about being cremated and she got really mad. She also says I just haven't had something in my life happen to make me turn to faith. |

My mother and father don't care. They've both questioned the existence of God in the past. They also were against forcing us into any religion when we
were children. My brother is an atheist. My sister thinks I am a heathen and wants to do everything in her power to make sure her son doesn't turn to be as
godless as my brother and I apparently are.

I don't hate religion or religious people. I don't want to keep anyone from observing their religion.
I just think the God thing is a fairy tale and a worldwide money grab. |

My father simply shares his belief which he fully believes and I share mine. I don't necessarily disagree with him I just am not religious. My mother is
flat out a non-believer.

My mom doesn't understand it, but she doesn't really make a big deal about it.

the lakes slave wrote:Ok Thanks. I've heard the religious people I know say stuff about agnostic and from what they said it sounded different. When I was at my neighbors son's bday party she had all her friends from church there and she was talking about her sister's new bf being agnostic. She was talking such crap about him just b/c he was agnostic. Everyone acted so holyier than thou. |

My parents don't care. I was "technically" raised catholic, but my parents only did it (well, my mom) in order to appease my grandparents who
were hardcore catholics. My parents also sent me to private christian school....my dad said he wanted me to at least be exposed to religion, whatever the hell
that means, but I've seen through all the crap and lies so now I'm athiest lol.

I'm an atheist with a lot of atheist family members. However, my father is a devout but liberal Catholic. My mother is a misguided Baptist. So, they find
it odd but don't seem too bothered my it.

the lakes slave wrote:No, agnostics don't believe in a higher power. Basically, you're a deist. Sorry, I'm big on semantics. It's interesting to see how everyone's families have reacted. I wish mine were more supportive. |
