If so, what worked best to make it better? Mine are in my chest.

Yeah the dr told me to take three advil three times a day for a week and to put heat on my chest. If it's not better next week I might have to take
steroids. It hurts so bad I'm taking oxycodone. It sucks cause every time I breathe it's irritating the joints more.
And I didn't know we had joints in our chests until today either. |

I just went through a round of costochondritis (inflammation of the cartilage in the ribs/sternum) this week. Aspirin and ibuprofen are over the counter anti
inflammatory medications. I actually have on hand some non-steroid anti inflammatory medication because I have Reiter's Syndrome (an inflammatory disease).
My doctor also suggested I ice my chest to try to quickly bring swelling down since it hurt to breathe. Heat is going to ease the pain but not help the swelling.

Yeah I'm surprised your doc suggested heat as that will encourage more swelling in the area.

Well it's not swollen. Just tender and hurts. And he actually said heat or ice. Whichever feels better. I'd just rather have heat than ice because
i'm already cold all the time and I don't want to sit around all day holding ice. LOL.

Inflammation is swelling. So, yes, it is swollen.
If it hurts to breathe deeply, laugh, move in certain ways, then you probably have something like costochondritis. It also hurt if I was to press right in the middle of my chest above my heart. If that's the case, you need ice, not heat. |

Yeah that's where the pain is. Left side right above my boob. I guess I'll do ice then. That's why I asked. To see what helped others. Thanks.

I'm surprised your doctor didn't prescribe Naproxen... If it continues to hurt, a round of steroid medication really will help. I had a couple of
really bad flare-ups of inflammation in my hips and a steroid shot was the only way I was able to walk.

Over the counter, aleve works best for me. But like someone said....steroid shots are the only thing that work for me too. They will become your best friend.
