I'm supposed to go back to the doctor sometime in the near future to have the strings trimmed shorter. The doc left them long, because he said sometimes IUD's can settle "up" into the uterus after insertion. Mine didn't move much, I don't think. So for anybody thinking about getting one, I'd say go for it. The pain during insertion sucks big time, but it's worth it...

A few days after I had it put in, I could feel the strings "poking" me every now and then. But, the strings have since "curled up" into, er, my vagina. They say you're supposed to check the strings once/month to make sure the IUD is still there. I check my every couple of weeks or so (that's how I know the strings are all curled up in there) ninja please -------- There are things they can do for the pain. If they start the procedure and it simply hurts too much to continue, they use a strip made of something (the doctor said it's nothing more than a thing strip of seaweed?) that dilates your cervix to 2cm (which is the size the opening needs to be, in order to insert it).

I didn't mind it at all, lol. I love mine Although, mine slipped out after I had it put in. I didn't realize it until my follow-up and I heard my doctor say "uh oh." That's not a good thing to hear when you have a 8 week old baby at home. Scared the crap out of me.

I love when you randomly show up. I've always thought having an IUD would be cool but I've just heard it hurts so bad....I would definitely wait until after I have kids I think.

It beats having a period, that's for sure! I would also recommend it to anyone.

My friend just got a IUD put in recently and she hates it. She's been cramping and having her period for the last 5 weeks.

She's been cramping and having her period for the last 5 weeks. Tell her to be patient. That's what happened with me. BUT, it does get better and easier. If she's cramping to bad make sure she goes to make sure it's not slipping out. Severe cramping is a sign that it's coming out.
