WTF? Jack and John are two different names. They have nothing to do with each other.
You're dumb. And to whomever mentioned it, Jack Nicholson's real name is John.

Jack is a real name here, not a just a nickname. I only know a couple of OLD men who are called Jack but really called John. Every Jack I know under 60 is
legally named Jack.

I'm pretty sure there is not a law saying you have to name your child John even if you are gonna call him Jack. If you like Jack, name the child Jack! At
least it's a nice normal name and not something fucking crazy.

I have a friend named Jack (who is Catholic) and his real name is John. It makes no sense to me but it seems like John = Jack and Jonathan = John. I asked one
of my managers at work if she had heard of that and she said one of her friends did the same thing with her son because of the whole Biblical thing and
it's weird because her son won't even respond to John. It's just odd to me.

Considering the names some kids have out there, I see no reason why a kid can't have the official name of Jack on their birth certificate. But I know I do
have an uncle who's name is John but we all call him Jack. Jack was actually used as a nickname for people named John going back many centuries although
I don't think it's as common now.
And Jack/John Nicholson is a good example as well as President Jack/John Kennedy.

I think most older Jacks are Johns, but most younger Jacks are just Jack. I know three boys named Jack that are 3-5 and none of them are named John.
I actually hate the name John, but like Jack. If you like Jack, go with it. |

My stepson's name is Jake and he/we always get "Jacob". I used to think you should name a child what you want to call them, but after this
experience I've turned a little more traditional in that sense and I think giving them the formal name gives them more flexibility. The name Jack passes
the Supreme Court Test imo, but other nickname-names can be a little off.
For example- I'll use Jake. It sounds rather informal and to some uneducated/thuggish. That description is the farthest thing from my Jake, but I've heard people describe the name association. If he were a Jacob he would have the option of using the more formal name in more formal situations. |
