So the fact that the economy sucks right now isn't really applicable. Besides, if someone has known about the wedding 6 months in advance, all they have to do is put aside $20 each month or paycheck to cover the gift.

Oh, wait while I feel sorry for their two income family and ability to split the bills in half. I wanted to, but ended up giving them monetary tips instead as I realized that this was the common thing to do. However, these ladies are not my family and friends!

If you can afford to spend $75 on your hair, you can afford $100 for a one-time wedding gift.

They're just saying that the rule that they should pay for the meal is ridiculous. Because the bride wants a reception that costs a certain amount of money, your gift should increase proportionately? Wedding "etiquette" is the most ridiculous set of rules ever invented.

And yet again, I ended up giving monetary tips. This is what my parents and most family members did, so I didn't realize that it wasn't common. Giving cleaning ladies a couple bucks for a tip is infinitely different from giving your friend or family member a gift.

The price of the plate is often how people determine how much they will be giving as a gift, which is very common wedding etiquette. I'm saying that $50-100 for three people is inappropriate as you should at least be covering the cost of your plate. The minimum that three people should give is $150, but even that, in my opinion, is very low for someone whom you'd consider to be like a daughter.
