well if she still resembled a "sir" at least a little bit, you're not at fault for an honest mistake!

When I worked at a grocery store, a transexual (man to woman) regularly came in and I always called him 'miss'. I call them by whatever gender they
identify themselves as.

Fuck 'em. People who move against the grain of society in such a way and expect people to know exactly how to handle interacting with them are fucking
assholes.
He's a guy. If he's post op he's a guy with a mutilated penis. I'm not anti anything but that pisses me off. |

I don't call anyone ma'am or sir so I avoid that problem.

Dylishis wrote:No. I'm really not. When someone walks in looking exactly like a dude, sounding like a dude, with the mannerisms of a dude... I'm going to call him sir. I won't go out of my way to do it to offend the person... but if I'm not 100 percent and it leans one way or the other I'll go with whatever appears to make more sense or I won't mention it at all. I couldn't give a shit about how somebody chooses to live their life. Their lifestyle does not offend me. What DOES offend me is when they get pissed off at people for not being zeroed in on exactly what they are. If I called a tranny sir accidentally I would apologize but I would get pissed at them if they took it too seriously. Those people should expect a little confusion. I'm not a hateful person. Would you mind of a pre or post op transexual used the womens restroom or locker room with you in it? |

I don't call people sir or miss, ever. But gender is a performance, and if the cues this person was giving off weren't the gender they identify as, it
isn't your fault.

( i work in a cafe)
he/she came in and wanted something that we didn't have anymore ice cream to make..so i said sorry blah blah and he/she copped tude. i recommended something else so he/she ordered it. it was clearly a man who had become a woman(boobs and all) but the voice was ALL man as was the rest of his/her body besides the fake tatas. so i'm done making the drink and thinking in my head "just dont stare or smirk"..i give back the change and say have a goodnight sir. thats when he/she goes EXCUSE ME SWEETIE WHAT DID U SAY. I'm like i'm sorry and then he/she starts rambling on how rude i am and how disrespectful that was and I should watch what I say to people. I'm not saying a word and once he/she was done rambling on I said "ok have a good night then". so then he/she goes and sits down at a table and is clearly fuming inside. i thought he/she was going to take a chair and kill me with it. sorry if that was hard to follow i have too much nyquil in me. |

As this person isn't really female - I don't think they should be so offended by some stranger not knowing that that.

I get it. From what you're describing though, it sounds like anyone would have thought you were being a bitch. You totally didn't have to say
sir/ma'am either way.
