I do. I live by myself in an apartment. I also bought a car. I obviously can't buy everything I want (but not many people can!) but I'm fine.

I could totally live off of that if I had a roommate. With a roomie, I could live quite comfortably. Hell, I live in Chicago and $20K would make for good
times.

This all relative to what you consider comfortable and what you're willing to sacrifice.

Momobobo wrote: Like Kelli said, if you have roommates, you can do it, depending where you lived. When I lived with my roommate, my bills were only around $400 months total. Fix bills at least, not including gas, or food. Rent- $265 Electricity- $25ish Cellphone- $45 Car insurance-$50 =$385 Granted I didn't have that many bills. My car was only $2,000, and I bought that with everything I made at a summer job in high school. I don't have health insurance, and didn't pay for internet (it was free where we lived). I had a part time at a resturant and got free meals so that saved me a lot in food. So really, even after all my bills, and food/gas plus other small cost for random misc. house/personal items, I was even able to save a couple hundrend a month. It's quite easy to live off 1,000/mth, like I said, just depending where you live, and if you're in college, etc. |

I've been living off of waaaaay less that that for the last little bit (going to school + retail ≠ a lot of money) and I'm surviving. It really depends
on where you live. I have my boyfriend here too and he pays half of everything so that helps too but yeah...I'm definitely not going out buying $500
handbags but I'm not poor either. It's all about living within your means.

She's 32, why the fuck would she want a roommate?
You can do it, but it would leave you with very little for extras. |

I couldn't live on $25,000 a year, but that was mostly due to my credit card bills. Even without those, it would be really, really tight.

I only made 20K last year (true story) and I have two roommates. We don't have cable, don't have that many bills, and I guess I used some of my school
loans for some living expenses.

Damn I thought I had cheap rent here. I couldn't find a decent place to live for 250 a month. The cheapest around here is about 250 and it is the dumpiest
dump dump that ever existed.

Having a roommate isn't about whether you WANT one. Does anyone at any age really want a roommate?

I make more than that and I still can't afford to live by myself. I mean, I can, but I will save ZERO dollars and have not money to spend on anything
non-essential.

I make about $28,000/year (after taxes) and can afford to live on my own.
My rent is cheap ($260/month) and I don't have an unusual/out-of-the-ordinary debt for a person my age. After all of my bills, as well as putting $320/month into savings, I have roughly $400 - $500 left over for things like gas and groceries. It's comfortable. |
