that makes me CRAZY. They came over for dinner last night, and I was playing kind of background dinner-y music (Astrud Gilberto, Rufus Wainwright, Django
Reinhardt), all stuff that was good music but quiet enough that we could talk over it comfortably. Between courses she'd literally be getting up and
checking the iPod every minute or so, and then scrolling through both our iPods to find other music to play, and then finally pulled out her nano after dinner
because she needed to hear the Rolling Stones. And she refuses to let ANY albums play through--even with the Stones she didn't have any full albums on her
nano, only singles from a bunch of different albums. And even when we played her music, she'd get up halfway through a song and want to skip to the next.
Apparently at her brother's wedding, he told her, "Your gift to me is not to fuck with the music!" (She still did.)
She finally stopped when her boyfriend said "STOP!" and then I could see she was really antsy to change the music all the time.
I've known
she was like this before, but I didn't realize it's like some kind of compulsion with her. It wouldn't be so bad, maybe, if we all liked the music
she played, but she wanted to play the Stones and Phish and the Grateful Dead. Loudly, during dinner.
She finally stopped when her boyfriend said "STOP!" and then I could see she was really antsy to change the music all the time.
