I took Hershey to the vet about an hour ago, and he's not doing good. He has an URI (Uppr Resporitary infection) and he keeps making these noises like
he's in pain. All I wanna do is cry. I;ve only had him for 2 1/2 years and I'm bawling. I just wanna crawl up in a hole and cry.

I'm sorry.
What was the name of the lighter-colored one you had before Hershey? |

Thank you. I really just don't know what to do. He has the same problems happening that my other piggy had. His name was Grizzly.

You could get a sugar glider next time. My roommate has one and they're really fun.

I had Grizzly for 3 and 1/2 years. He was 5. Hershey's 3. I think the average is 5-7 years.

Guinea pigs are just really susceptible to URIs. This is not the ideal climate for them. All of my guinea pigs died from URIs and I was always careful to keep
them away from windows/vents and keep their cages covered from drafts.

I know this may not help, but if he does pass away, at least his pain will be gone.

He seems to be doing okay right now, hes sitting in his cage eating some hay that I just put in there. And, I just feed him some critical care. We'll see
what happens. If he does pass, I'll miss him very much, but I know he won't be in pain anymore. I'm going to go ahead and log off now, but thank
you everybody for the posts I can't even type this without tears falling down my face.

Awww
. I know you love your piggies. I remember when Grizzly passed and how happy I was for you when you got Hershey. I believe these things do happen
though for a reason, and maybe it's so that you'll give yet another pig a great home. Best wishes for Mr. Hershey right now, pull through little buddy!

Hershey seems to be doing okay. He was sitting up eating hay again, and taking his carrots into his igloo and eating those. He was also running around on the
floor and jumping. So, hopefully, this is just a virus and goes away. Thanks again for all the replies. It means a lot to me that people are here for him (and
me)

So, right nw Hershey is okay. Not great, but okay. He was digging through his pellets, so that's a plus. I'm still feeding him the critical care and
baytril. I do appreciate all the posts and wishes. So thank you everyone.

Aww Im SOO sorry about Hershey. I lost a piggie to the same thing myself and now I have another one that has a pretty bad abscess on the side of her face so
she is having A LOT of trouble eating and taking trips to the vet every week for cleaning.
Mine lasted for about 3 months once she had the infection full force. I hope all works out for you and Hershey gets better!

Awww, I'm sorry!
I had a very young piggie die from a URI. But in my research I found that many times they survive it. I think mine died because she was so young. If he is showing interest in food, that's a good sign. It's when they don't want to eat at all that you have to worry! |

I'm sorry.
