TV is a luxury, this shouldn't be in the Senate to begin with. Maybe so, but as I mentioned the other day--this is a service that was previously free and available to everyone with an antenna. The government decided to switch it to digital--it would be ludicrous, IMO, for the government to make a law restricting an open service without offering some relief to people who will suddenly lose that service. They decided to make the switch because the technology's better and they want to open up more channels; it's not like they're doing it because analog TV is somehow harmful. That said, I do think that they should move forward with the change. It's been a long time. |

They have been advertising the switch forever. If people aren't prepared now, they won't be prepared 4 months from now. For my own selfish reasons, I
just want them to make the switch. I'm sick of hearing about it.

Why the switch? We got the box last summer, and I have to say, getting 6 PBS channels is pretty awesome. |

It's definitely an optional choice, not one that is necessary. That said, some entrepreneurs have a lot of money, but some are just starting.
"Entrepreneur" does not equal "rich."

I think the more important issue is whether people will be able to get signal at all after the switch-- those of us that live in mountainous/hilly terrain or
are pointed in the opposite direction can not get signal from the DTV antennas. HOA's and rental properties can not put up big antennas. So, those people
do not get all the stations or even the local stations after the switch. So basically this is forcing us to buy cable or satellite.

And those commercials are annoying. They should change them to say "hey all you fat lazy morons who STILL couldn't be bothered to get a god damn box need to stfu about tv going black" |

I think the main concern is about elderly people, who may not be able to understand how to hook up the box, or how to scan the channels in. TV isn't just
about watching Oprah, or Divorce Court. People need access to news, and information about the weather, and they need to be able to know what's going on, if
there's an emergency. Still, I don't think that in another 4 months, everyone's going to be ''ready'' if they aren't ready now.
I remember this being talked about back in the late 90's!

So basically this is forcing us to buy cable or satellite. I live in an area like that and we couldn't pick up all the stations either on a standard antenna. And the stations we could pick up would freeze a lot. We bought a Phillips HDTV Indoor/Outdoor antenna and can pick up everything just fine now. I think they should have put an INCOME LIMIT on the $40 coupons! The whole point of the coupons was to help people who couldn't afford the boxes, yet anyone, regardless of your income, could go online and get the coupons. Doesn't make much sense to me. |
