Are you getting more than $1000 or less than back for taxes?

I'd rather get more taken out and get more back with the refund.

I don't understand how anyone can get back 1000 dollars back in taxes, or anything close to that number (under normal circumstances).
Much better to have the right amount removed each month and set some aside in a high-yielding fund or savings account than to give the govt a pretty much free loan for a few months... |

It may be hard to keep up but I'll certainly never forget that people on JJB claim to be getting 10-20K tax refunds. Especially if they make 6 figures. I
didn't know such a world existed.

I'm getting about six thousand back, as I said in the other post.

I don't get the concept that I'm somehow doing something wrong if I get a refund.
I'm single. I claim 1 dependent on my taxes. I get money back. This year more than usual because I'm claiming my niece. So how am I not being taxed correctly? |

Last year we had a massive refund though and I just felt like we screwed up but things changed so much that I'm glad I didn't make an adjustment. Last year we got nearly $6K back. My husband withholds at single zero and I withheld at single one. We didn't change it and it turned out that was a good thing. Our income increase and the loss of our child tax credit is giving me only a $500 refund with the same withholdings. |

You're doing something not financially savvy though if your refund is consistently year after year in the thousands of dollars or more. Your withholding choice is correct if you are single and have no dependents. However, since you are claiming your niece this year, you technically could have claimed 2 dependents (yourself and your niece). But since being able to claim your niece is a new occurrence and may or may not be a permanent one, not a big deal to keep claiming 1. |
