She kept talking about it but I didn't think she'd actually do it. I think she owed $4k yet on the Beetle, but it's been giving them problems
lately and it's been so expensive to fix.
My dad's hated the thing since probably a month after they got it (though he didn't mind driving it so much because it had a turbo and you could tell he enjoyed that). It was a rough ride and it sat so low to the ground that she was constantly bottoming out in our driveway, in addition to other places. Straddling roadkill was absolutely not an option because otherwise you will drag it the rest of the way home...our dog enjoyed that day.
I believe the last major issue she's had with it is that the hood latch is
broken to where she couldn't get under the hood and she was hating to think how much the VW dealership was going to charge her for that one. (Our mechanic
can't work on it for the most part. He's fixed what he can and done the usual maintenance on it, but a lot of stuff, he can't do.)
My parents have had my car for the last two weeks since I've been back to school because my dad wanted me to leave it due to a supposed brake issue that evidently was not an issue at all (frustrating story there
). Mom ended
up driving my car a couple days because of some issues with the Bug...and I heard her start saying "ohhh it's so nice. It's comfortable.
You've got so many buttons that I don't know what they do, but I like it."
Then she tells me the dealership where I got mine has one like it, except a
different color, year newer, but "not as fancy."
She goes and test drives it...then calls me from the front seat of a Mini Cooper (I love them...really wanted one for a long time but I gave up on it), and says "Well I test drove it, but I don't know..." And the next thing I know, she's calling me from home and says "The Bug's gone...your dad's happy."
Crazy woman.
I guess the dealership gave her $3k for it. Her car
payments have gone up $40 or so but she also got the extended warranty after seeing how many issues I've had where that thing has saved me a lot of money.
So my mom and I match now.
She won't be so noticeable now when
she's cruising around town because that car stood out. We called it her midlife crisis car. So now she's got a "laser blue" 2005 Malibu Maxx
with a DVD player in the backseat. She's got the sunroof I wanted, but mine has more features otherwise and after all the problems my brother's had
with his sunroof leaking lately, I'm ok with not having one.
Farewell midlife crisis car. This was the one I was supposed to finally learn how to drive a stick on.
Didn't happen.
No pics of the new one yet but they're bringing it up today when they bring me my car back.
