I know it'll be at least four hours from where I live, but the road most people take (the 15 I think) isn't crazy, right? My mom's making it out to
be terrible.

It's perfectly fine. Take the 15 all the way. What part of So.Cal are you driving from?

It takes forever! It's such a long drive because there's nothing to look at for a long time. Just desert, desert, and more desert.

I'm driving from Orange County. I'll be traveling with a friend so I shouldn't get too bored. I honestly wasn't worried about it until I talked
to my mom. She is making it seem like no one makes off that freeway alive or something.

I did it last march with my boyfriend and it was fine. It's just boring because it's all desert! We drove from Claremont and I think it was about a 3
hour drive.

Yeah. Just hit the 15 and head north. You'll start seeing signs for Vegas around Bakersfield. It's a bit of a tedious drive, and if you drive at night,
be careful of the wind between Bakersfield and Barstow. It will rip across the desert and it's hella cold. If you do go at night, and you're in a high
profile vehicle, make sure you roll down your windows and the wind will pass through the car and not rock it to the other side of the freeway.

I despise that drive. SO. BORING. If you can afford to fly, do it. It's only like 30 minutes. Try Southwest.

Is this for the FOB/Cobra show? (I remember seeing you saying there should be an LA date in that thread).
And didn't you go to the Myspace secret show with AAR? (not to sound like a stalker, I just remember your username). I feel like I've probably seen you before because we seem to like the same bands and go to the same shows. And I'm probably going to that show also-the FOB/Cobra-I think a lot of LA people are going to it. And about the drive-I've done it a lot, it goes fast, just bring a lot of music. |

Totally boring, but there's some outlets and the infamous Zzyzx road.

I will be leaving in the morning on a Sunday, but most likely coming home at night. Thanks for the tip, Lixxie. If I have that problem I'll try that.
Flying sounds ideal, but I dunno if it's an option right now. And yes, Schizophrenic Surfer, that's what it's for. |

Dammit, someone beat me to it....I was gonna say make sure to stop at Zzyzx road.
Isn't the 15 the only way to get out there, though? I have no idea.....Ive driven there 1000 times and we always take the 15. It's boring as fuck, but eh....its usually takes us like 3.5 hours. We always stop at the Taco Bell in Bakersfield or Baker, and we make sure to take bets on what we think the temperature will be in Baker (there's this HUGE thermometer which tells you the current temp from the freeway). Other than that it's boring as shit, but to be expected. I've always wanted to stop by Area 51 on the way home. Not that you can actually see Area 51, but if you take certain roads you can get to as far as humanly possible....before you run into the signs that say "dont go any further or you will be shot." But it would be cool to say you were there. Make sure you leave at a decent hour or you will end up in traffic FOREVER. Obviously avoid rush hour times (Friday night after work or what not). One time my friends and I were coming home from Vegas and we literally moved 1 mile in 3 hours. It was INSANE. Turned out there was a huge accident and deaths. The traffic was so bad that we were literally standstill on the freeway for hours. Everyone was getting out of their car and just chilling. We have tons of pictures from sitting on the side of the 15. Also, it was 1000000 degreees because it was in the dead of summer so me and all my girlfriends were on the side of the freeway just chilling in bikini tops and shorts. It was miserable. Everyone in the other cars were taking off their shirts and stuff (guys) because you couldnt just leave your car running in the heat like that so no one had AC. |

And don't speed, the cops will catch you lol. >especially when you start coming in about 30 mins before Vegas....
The weather is good to travel right now, no heat, but always check ahead and tune into the radio station, you doont want to catch any dust storms, and stay awake at all times... You will be just fine. ..its easier then driving around L.A freeways. Getting here is easy its when you get into Vegas watch out for all the crackheads , its NUTSS!!! to drive around here. |

Check both the CA and NV highway patrol sites before you go to make sure there aren't any major accidents (like DoesThatSparkle, I got stuck behind an
accident for 3 hours once). Also, there's construction around stateline and they shut the freeway down to one lane in both directions one day a week
(Wednesdays I think) and that's been causing delays.

I drove it there and back numerous times. It was pretty long, but I'm used to driving for days straight, so my opinion means nothing. I liked the drive,
though. Not crazy!
