I had a small trash can and bought those Ruffies trash bags. They're like five dollars for a roll of 100 and that one roll will last almost a year. You
can't smell those diapers at all.

All four of us used to live in this one bedroom and we turned out fine. My parents lived like that when they first immigrated to the UK, with so many other
people, sharing cramped spaces. Sometimes that's where life starts out or ends up taking you. It's fine! People in the other parts of the world would
do anything for a place half that size, so I don't know why people are complaining about it.
Muppet, good luck with the planning and the baby!

BWhammy, where do you live? Obviously there's a range of square footage that could be considered a small space, but I'm curious. Also depends on the
number of people living in the space, its layout, etc.
Have you ever read Terence Conran's "How To Live in Small Spaces"? He's an architect in London, and the spaces in that book range from 500 to 1000-ish. Houses and apartments.

Thanks for the rec! We have some of Terence Conran's books (How to Live in Small Spaces and Storage) and I love them, but they're usually geared toward
people who actually own and can do things like knock down walls and build staircase bookshelves.

I read a great article on families living in small spaces in the NY Times a couple months ago. It was really interesting -- here's the link if anyone
wants to read it.

That stairbookwell is gorgeous.
Mupp, 900 sq. ft. is pretty big. Especially for San Francisco. Glam and I live in almost 1100 sq. ft. apartment and it's pretty comfy and roomy. In my city I would never raise a child in an apartment, but if I lived in a more concentrated area or downtown, I totally would. I like looking at http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ and checking out their Small is Cool contest entries - http://contests.apartment...apy.com/2008/small-cool/. Lots of inspiration there. OT - glam and I started a blog. I will PM it to you. |

Definitely do not waste money on a diaper genie...hopefully the trash chute will work.
I'm with Spamster on the changing table...I don't know ANY parent who has actually used theirs, including me. I changed mine on changing pads on the floor. |

I LOVE ApartmentTherapy!
LMFAO!! I just asked my husband our square footage. I was WAYYYY off. It's 680 square feet. I guess it goes to show how big my apartment FEELS.

I think I was thinking 900 because recently David did the math on the square footage and was disappointed. He said he THOUGHT it was going to be like 900, but
it was only 680.
I hope that more qualifies as a small space. |

Well, even at 680 is big. glam and I have essentially an extra room downstairs. I can see us living without it and being fine.
