I hate fondant. It's thick and chalky and gross. I'd rather have a great cake with really good frosting than a fancy looking cake I paid $1500 for that
tastes like crap.

My friend is a baker and from what I know, there is a type of fondant that tastes like marshmallow that is very rich but tastes overall pretty okay. Otherwise
fondant is more meant for simple decoration and for peeling it away when you eat the actual cake.

I tried fondant a few times, and it tasted like chalk. But it was pretty!

I decorate cakes and have used fondant many times on cakes. It's a joy to work with....you can make anything out of a little fondant, strong and moldable.
But although we all have little tricks to make it taste better, I don't think it can. But it keeps the cake fresh by not letting air hit the cake itself.
