On those cake decorating shows on Food Network it doesn't seem like they focus on the
cake itself much, they just throw it around and slop some frosting on it then cover it up with pretty fondant lol that seems like it would be nasty! like it
wouldnt have much flavor. And the cakes always look kinda..crumbly and hard lol

It doesn't taste very good IMO. I typically peel it back and then just eat the cake.

very beautiful to me, but pretty gross tasting. Kind of tasteless actually.

Yea the designs they make are pretty amazing, but it just seems like a lot of times there is NO focus on the cake itself and it doesn't even look very
appetizing lol I dunno, if I was gonna pay a lot of money for a cake I'd want the whole thing to be edible and taste good, not just look pretty.

i love cakes
oh with most birthday cakes or wedding cakes they do focus more on the actual cake and then just put the fondant lightly over the top. so, it won't taste nasty or inedible. the food network stuff is like...more artwork than taste. |

I told my friend I was at a wedding and they served the cake with the fondant still on it and she was horrified. It does have a horrible taste but those cakes
are so pretty!

I was always told to just take off the fondant because it was bad tasting. I've never actually tried it though.

Yea I figured those on the shows are probably a little more extreme than most cakes lol I just wish there was a way to make cool amazing cakes without fondant lol |

some people are talented with plain old frosting, but there are some things that they cannot do with it unfortunately
I love cakes so much. I seriously
visit sites every day that feature cakes.

It depends on the fondant that's used. Most of the "commercially made" fondant is really gross, but if you make your own (depending on the
recipe) it can be edible.

Marshmallow fondant is actually pretty yummy, but it's softer than regular fondant so you can't do as much with it.
You CAN do a lot of things with regular icing that you can do with fondant, it's just a lot more difficult. |

Yes. I really wanted to start making fondant cakes as a hobby. Maybe that's weird, but the cakes are so pretty and I wanted to make them too!

You can use flavored syrups with it but that is more for candy making not in cake decorating. That is what the cream fillings are inside of chocolate
Vanilla Cream Fondant or Vanilla Nut Cream Fondant: Add 1 tablespoon vanilla and 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts. Black Walnut Cream Fondant: Add 1 tablespoon vanilla, 1/4 teaspoon black walnut extract and 1 cup walnuts. Cherry Cream Fondant: Flavor with 2 teaspoons almond extract and 1 teaspoon rum extract. Cherry Nut Cream Fondant: Add 2 teaspoons almond extract, 1 teaspoon rum extract, 1/2 cup chopped candied cherries and 1 cup chopped pecans, walnuts or almonds. Mint Cream Fondant: Add 1/2 teaspoon oil of peppermint or 2 teaspoons peppermint extract. Lemon Cream Fondant: Add 1 tablespoon lemon extract, a small amount of yellow food color and 1/4 teaspoon citric acid. Orange Cream Fondant: Add 1 tablespoon orange extract, a small amount of orange food color and 1/4 teaspoon citric acid. Raspberry Cream Fondant or Strawberry Cream Fondant: Add 2 tablespoons raspberry or strawberry extract, 1/4 teaspoon lemon extract, a small amount of pink or red food color and 1/4 teaspoon citric acid. |
