went to a screening today. I didn't really have much expectations for it. i thought the movie was decent overall. the performances are all very strong
across the board. My friend who saw the movie earlier this month said Meryl Streep's performance is a little over the top, but i thought it she was fine.
The movie is a little bit too slow at times and some scenes just dragged on and on. It's not really my type of movie, but nonetheless it's still a good
movie. What i liked about the movie is that it makes you think about the very question of the movie- did he or did he not? One min you're convinced
Philip's character is innocent and then the next you're having doubting about everything.
I'm sure they'll nominate Meryl because they nominate every single movie she's in |

it looks like the movie played up to its name if you're left contemplated if he did it or not. doubt looks really interesting and i want to see Meryl get
her second award, but this year with kate it's going to be tough.
that sucks that you didn't like Benjamin, but it's still getting great reviews in variety, nyt, and hollywoodreporter, while the movie you did like, Australia, wasn't critically acclaimed, so i'm going to have to take this with a grain of salt. i believe Benjamin is going to get nominations in technical categories and by now it's clear that it's going to win visual effects. base on rottentomatoes and metacritics, i think you can add slumdog and dark knight into the best pic race too. |

yeah, i've noticed all the great reviews around Benjamin, but everyone i talked to who saw the movie didn't like it. I really loved Australia and the
reviews are very mixed, but all Baz Luhrmann movies received mixed reviews. i think the only way to judge is to see these movies for yourself. Trust me, I
really wanted to like Benjamin and looked very forward to seeing it since i saw that mesmerizing trailer. Maybe i expected too much and it just came short. So
yeah, def take my reviews as a grain of salt, i'm just sharing my thoughts about them.
Doubt will definitely have people talking about it after seeing it. I think Meryl is a shoo in for a nom and maybe Viola Davis for supporting. I think Slumdog should be nominated, but it won't. it's going to be like Pan's Labyrinth, critically acclaimed, but snubbed. I think Frost/Nixon is also a strong contender, but Milk kind of took its thunder for being the "political one" this season. Kate also has "The Reader" coming out, that might hurt her chance if voting splits between the two films. They are also pushing Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino. |

I know right. I expect she'll also get nominated for Mamma Mia Anyway---the movie looks interesting. I heard Natalie Portman turned down Amy Adams role.

What screening did you go to? I think one of the people I work with did the check-in for that screening.
And I don't know if Rev Road will get a best picture nom. I've been told that Kate's performance is way better in The Reader. I've seen Rev Road, but not The Reader yet, so I can't give my opinion on that yet. |

Adams was good. my friend thought she was very good, but she might be overshadowed by all the other actors in the film because they all have more showy roles.
i went to Harmony Gold. I just found out Kate is going for best supporting in The Reader. Did you know that Kate replaced Nicole kidman in the Readers due to her pregnancy? interesting. |
