They've been negotiating, authorizing a strike voter is an indication that the negotiating talks have broke down. They even had a government control person
come in to mediate the talks, nothing was working. SAG wants more, the producers want them to take a deal a little better than the WGA. All striking at this
moment is going to do is piss people off and further stall talks.

Let them strike, and see how much understanding, concern or sympathy they get from anyone.
I've got enough DVDs and Tivo stuff to last me a while. We'll see who wins the showdown.

I know several people who are in SAG and they're very confident there won't be a strike.

I do still work there. I think one of the writers (who is also in SAG) has been to several meetings and he said the general consensus is that none the members will vote for a
strike -- it's just such a bad idea.

Oh poor bbs, living paycheck to paycheck. Hey, while you're not acting, go work in a restaurant or something, like EVERYONE ELSE.

^^Nope, I can't agree with that sentiment. When they're not acting, many SAG members DO work in restaurants, but think about why you go see a movie or
watch something on TV: is it because it's produced by a certain studio, or is it because of the storylines (writers) and actors who appear in them? The
studios make hundreds of millions of dollars off of the product, which they couldn't do without the actors. We don't want anyone to feel sorry for us,
we just want to get paid our fair share for our work.

Yeah, again, not everyone is a millionaire. So...if you don't like it, find another job. Not every actor is good enough to make a lot of money.

dannie9 wrote: Yeah, as someone said before, the majority of SAG actors don't pay their bills with acting jobs. That's why they deserve the money when they DO get a job! But yeah, considering how far back the writer's strike set the industry, I can't see many SAG members wanting to strike. To the people in this post that work in the industry, what do you do? I just graduated with a film degree and am trying to break into the camera dept.

Whooooa, I hope they don't. I'm a production coordinator. If that happens, its going to suck! I've got movies lined up for next year. |

SAG was offered the same deal for New Media that was given the the WGA. They refuse to take it because they want 3x as much on dvd sales.
Rosenberg is an asshole. Don't believe the hype. Anyone who is "fully behind SAG" is an asshole too. This makes me so infuriated I can hardly read this post. I work for a studio. I have seen actors/writers/producers/directors contracts. They are not hurting for money and they are not treated unfairly. Also, yes 95% of SAG are not working actors, therefore they don't give a shit if there is a strike or not. They don't make their living working as a actor. However striking isn't going to help them actually get an acting job. Unless you work in Hollywood you really have no idea what is going on. You can't believe all the propaganda the guilds put out there.

To whomever is saying they should be paid a fair wage for their work, actors are very well compensated for their services. It's not that base salary they
are pissing and moaning about. It's the new media which I believe they were offered a decent piece of. SAG is being absolutely ridiculous with all of this.
There is no need for a strike and I'm a big union type person. If it there were a real reason to strike I'd understand but after the writers'
strike effected LA the way it did this is so not needed right now. And think about all the other people like crews that work on tv shows. Those poor people who
make way less than any actor or writer ends up being out of a job for who knows how long. This strike business is ridiculous and very unneeded.
