If you have an abnormal pap, they might just want to make sure they're getting a more thorough sample.

Because you have some sort of dysplasia and they want to take a closer look to make sure that is all it is

I had only been with two people and I got it and ended up having surgery too due to it. I've said it repeatedly that you can get it on your wedding night
and be a virgin until then. Most guys do not know they carry it.

They're two different viruses.

i'll share my story and I have questions for mayer02 specifically, or anyone else who has info.
HPV and the consequences afterwards are what have been making my life miserable for the past month. I randomly got tested for HPV when I went to the doctors for UTI. Mine came back positive with two high risks(two of 31,33,61?? don't remember exactly). And then I got a couple of followup tests (which I am not sure of the names) and as a result, I had abnormal cells, LSIL and the lowest level of dysplasia. It means that they are not cervical cancer cells yet but possibility of the abnormal cells developing into cancer cells do exist. I went to more than 5 doctors because I was so scared. Only one of them suggested that I immediately get a laser treatment and all the others suggested that I wait 3 months and if it's still the same or have worsened then, then they will have me get LEEP. but they want to wait first since i'm only 21 and need to give birth later in life. Basically, all I can do right now is to make myself as healthy as possible and pray for it to go away on its own and not develop any further. But honestly, I'm scared as hell. I really want to get the laser treatment because the doctor that suggested it said, it will destroy all the bad cells without damaging my cervix. But all the others said that the laser treatment is not yet a proved way of treatment.(??) I don't know what is right information and what I should base my decision on. And even if I do wait 3 months, I'm worried that it will progress (although, the doctors said it doesn't worsen that rapidly) because it's only been a year since I got infected with HPV and look how far I've come within the year. Also, I really pray for it to go away on its own more than anything, but I'm confused whether it's okay to keep having condomless sex(i'm in an exclusive relationship) with my bf. Because he probably has the same HPV's as me and if we keep on having sex(no condom or condom, since people say condoms aren't 100% protection), even when my HPV is on the way of becoming dormant, I'll probably get reinfected from him?? And also, him hitting my cervix and stuff, i don't know if it will influence the progress of abnormal cells. Or even any kind of minor bacterias that might enter me during sex. |

I had warts at one point, which is how I knew I had HPV. Then my paps came back abnormal twice in a row, so I had a colposcopy about a week and a half ago. My
doctor took 2 biopsies, which didn't hurt. I did get really lightheaded though, just because the whole thing skeeved me out. And yeah, be ready for some
funny discharge.
But she took one look inside and said, "There's
definitely some HPV in there..." I've done TONS AND TONS of research on this topic, so if you have any more questions feel free to ask me! Oh yeah, and the strains of HPV that cause warts DO NOT cause cervical cancer.

Wow, it just amazes me how each case can be so different. One is potentially severe and the next is not such a huge deal.
I don't know what "types" I have, I guess I'll find all of this out tomorrow... I just hope I can sleep tonight. |

My doctor said I had HPV but didn't do any kind of test for it, she just said that because my pap was abnormal that meant I have HPV. It seemed strange to
me. I had a colpo done and I was supposed to go back to the gyno for follow-ups but I never went.

If they told you they don't look cancerous, you're totally fine. That's the worst-case scenario.
I've never been told what types I have...I
wonder if they've ever tested that? fluffyjenn, yes, I had a series of acid treatments and used a cream. The acid treatments were NOT fun...they put pure
acid on the wart (which was in such a delicate place OMG) and it makes your body attack that area until it destroys the wart. They always worked within a week
or so though, so it was worth it for me. I've been completely wart-free for over five months now! I only had to deal with them for about 6 months on and
off. Hopefully they won't come back.

This post has kind of died, but I forgot to mention that there is a lube out now that's supposed to help prevent transmission of HPV! It's called
Divine No. 9. I would strongly recommend Googling this stuff and checking it out. I have the vanilla kind (Divine No. 8 ), and it's wonderful!

Hey guys... I felt like talking about today and didn't wanna make a new post... but I got the colpscopy done today and they did a TINY biopsy. It
didn't hurt or anything.
They said there was only a tiny area that was "SLIGHTLY" white under the light.. and I have to go back in 6 months. So I feel a little better about it all. Oh and I found out I have one of the high-risk strains (dont know exactly which type), which means I probably won't get any warts or anything.. just have to keep a closer eye on the abnormal cells until it clears. Whew! SO GLAD ITS OVERWITH. |

Glad you got good news tower. I know it sounds scary, but really it is just something that needs to be monitored and controlled when needed.

I had it for about 2 years and I just got a call today that said it was gone! So it really does go away on it's own. No worries..the procedure isn't
too bad either. Just makes you feel a bit crampy.

Mine came back with pre cancerous cells, I got the Leep treatments and the Colp. They made me get paps done every 4 months for the first 2 years and then every
6 months for a year and then back to the basic yearly. After one treatment I was fine. I'm due to go in for my check up next month again.

You don't have HPV at some point. Once you get it, you have it for life. 80% of women have it.
My paps always come back abnormal, and the colpo showed metaplaysia, which is more pre-pre-cancerous. She said its actually a good diagnosis, because with screening every 4 months we can prevent it from becoming pre cancerous. Women who get full blown cervical cancer usually weren't getting regular paps and colpos |
