I just started taking BC about 2 weeks ago. I know that spotting is common the first few months, but I haven't had any yet. My question is this: if you had
spotting, did it occur before you had your first period on the pills, or did it start happening after that first period? I'm not sure if I'm in the
clear or if I should still be on high alert.

I had it before the first period, then it stopped.

I had it before the first period. I'm on my first period right now so I don't know if it will continue to happen.

It happened to me when I tried to skip the placebo pills and jump right into the next month. Don't do that. I spotted daily for the next two months!

Some FYIs on new birth control takers...
Definitely give it at least 3 months if you do get any spotting. The hormones and your body should eventually figure it out by then. Spotting is one of the main reasons women give up on birth control so quick so as a health care professional (almost graduated pharmacist), I'm supposed to assure you that it will get better! Just stick with it. And another Re: the skipping and spotting. Wait a few months before you attempt to skip any periods! Then, if you attempt to skip a period and end up with break-through bleeding, it's best just to take your "week off" and have your "period." The spotting will go away after that and you won't have to deal with it for 2 months. You can stop in the middle of whatever pack you're on, then just pick it back up where you left off (if you don't want to waste the pills) and start into the next one after that. Note: this is for the monophasic pills only. |
