Yes, i've had people at work tell me they're "scared black people are gonna start acting like they own this country and will think they're all
that because the president is black" I heard two people talking and they were saying how scared they were if obama becomes president. I was like WTF? Are
you serious?

I haven't heard a single person say anything like that (IRL), but I live on the west coast and run in a very liberal circle. If people are thinking that,
then they must be too ashamed to say it.

I'm not going to lie to you. Yes, that is a comment I have heard, mostly from older people. Younger people don't seem to have that much of an issue
with it.
I'm registered republican and I have really been shocked at some of the mail I've gotten this election, everything from Obama being a terrorist, to Obama being a socialist. I think most smart people won't fall for this kind of advertising, but there are always some fools out there who will. |

I'm asking because I'm listening to a radio show and the woman is straight up afraid that black people will somehow be elevated or "take over" if Obama wins. Have you heard anything like this?

LOL. No, not worried at all. And I don't think most white people are. Only the racist crazies, which are already voting for McCain anyways.

i am white, and i don't think like that, and i also don't worry about that. but to be honest, what would it matter? what if the entire american government was black? who cares? or if they were all of hispanic decend? americans are americans, i still don't get why people are still making such a big issue of the colour of people. obama is black, but he is one of the most 'american' people i have ever seen/heard, so why shouldn't that go for other black people? just cos you're white doesn't mean you are a better american. the BEST people should lead the country, not the lightest. i really hope that one day the world will just not see colour anymore - it won't happen in our lifetime, and not likely in our children's lifetime - but Obama is a major, major step towards that. |

I haven't read the whole thread, but my mom and I are Obama supporters and she doesn't even feel comfortable telling people who live in our building.
We live in a co-op apartment building, and almost all of the residents are white senior citizens. She told me that every single one of our neighbors is voting
for McCain, I believe their main reason is because they don't want a black man in office. But she said they've mentioned that they think McCain's
tax plan is better, etc. My mom just tells them she doesn't know who she's voting for yet.
On the other hand, I'm at the other extreme. Everyone at work knows I'm voting for Obama and that I already did in the primary election. Every person I work with is a middle class American, so I kindly inform that about how much McCain's tax plan would SUCK for an average American. Or about how his health care policy would HURT us. Everyone in the office knows not to get me started.. if not it gets ugly. I just don't understand, it seems that all the old white people feel comfortable voting for McCain just because he's old and white, not because of what he stands for! It's infuriating! |

I would be more worried about the position of all Americans (white & black) in the world if McCain wins.

I've heard 2 people say that. One of them was my uncle. He's also one of those "slavery is over, racism is in the past" people.
I said "If racism is in the past, why are you so afraid of becoming a minority?" |

Well, *some* people talk like that. We don't claim them as part of the human race.

I didn't read through the whole post, but I can say that I am white and I am voting for Obama. I have heard white people say, in not so many words, that
they are worried about "blacks taking over". It is an issue where I am from. We live in Kansas and there isn't alot of diversity here and I think
that plays a big part in it. There are people that wont vote for Obama simply because he is black. It is a scary thing that people still can't look past
color. I agree that this election has pushed the race issue to the surface, which is often swept under the rug. I am worried about what is going to happen
after this election because the racial tension seems to be so high.

I haven't heard anybody say that. I only know of one person that isn't either voting for Obama or at least hoping he'll win.
My piece of shit father, however, did say that he doesn't want that Muslim terrorist in office. "He's not black! I've never heard a black person name their kid that (referring to Hussein)!" But his loudmouth ass doesn't vote so good. |

Oh, about the "too good to be true" thing. I feel that way a little about Obama. I keep wondering what major flaw he has that we haven't seen yet
or something. But I think a big part of it is that he IS fairly new to the political world and I don't think he's been corrupted by it...yet, at least.
