I am not an Obama enthusiast, but as a Democrat I am glad to see Justin supporting Obama and campaigning for him.

I can honestly say that I am GLAD I have other plans this day. Downgrade Justin. Downgrade.
I think celebrities need to keep their mouths shut when it comes to polictics. That's just me though. |

Why? They have a right just like anyone else to speak their minds politically. He's not going all Oprah.

I agree that getting people to vote is great. But Obama? Serious downgrade for me.

It's so freaking awesome that he's doing this. I wish it was closer because I would definitely go. I love that he's getting so involved with the campaign this time around.my thoughts exactly. |

Well, he went to the DNC, as well as a few other Obama/Democratic events in the past. I don't see how his political affiliation is surprising to anyone.

I love it when people say celebrities should shut up about politics when the don't like who they support. Yeah, I mean it's not like they still have
any rights to voice their thoughts once they become Hollywood.
Yay Justin! |

BlairWaldorf wrote:To Vote. Yes, I will agree with you there. But to publicly back a candidate, No. I have said this a million times, not here but in conversations with my friends, but there are a lot of people out there who will not take the time to educate themselves on the standings of both Obama and McCain. And when a celebrity comes out and says, "Vote for so and so...," there will always be a portion, a large portion, who are only going to vote for said candidates just because his/her favorite celebrity said so. I think if they just try and get more people to educate themselves and to vote, that is enough. Not to put the thought of who they should vote for in their head. I think Julia Roberts said it a little while ago, that she feels the same way. |

I don't care who he decides to vote for, we are all each entitled to our opinion as is he. If you read what I just wrote, you will see why I think they should keep their mouths shut. |

I was speaking in general, had it been a comment to you, I'd have quoted you.
If people are stupid and follow what celebrities say, that's their loss, that's not the celebrities problems. Celebrities have every right to show who they support, just as we all do. They are no different. I just don't think it's fair to punish them because people are lazy. Screw that. |

I know it isn't fair to punish them. I just personally think a person should make their own decision and not have others feeding them "facts" about either candidate. Good or bad. And I don't think that it is their loss that they follow a celebrity. I think it is our loss. As a nation. As a democrat, as a republican, it is our loss. If they don't care enough to learn, they aren't going to care enough to care what happens to them. |

And when a celebrity comes out and says, "Vote for so and so...," there will always be a portion, a large portion, who are only going to vote for said candidates just because his/her favorite celebrity said so.There are also plenty of people who vote based on their parent's opinions, their friend's opinions, misinformation, attack ads, etc. etc. We can't control any of that, it's all part of living in a democracy. I happen to be one of those people who wishes celebrities would shut up about a lot of things but, as has been said, they have a right to speak their minds just like we all do. |
