But if they're just being cheap, screw 'em.
I'm giving my cousin a measuring cup as a wedding present

Are they poor or something? Because if they are...it wouldn't hurt you to help.
But if they're just being cheap, screw 'em. |

that doesn't even sound like a wedding, more like a potluck dinner.
I wouldn't go even if it was family.

Does everyone have to send the same amount or does it depend on what meal you're having.

I'm totally fascinated by this, really. Like other people, I'd love to know how it was worded, the type of wedding (level of formality...), etc...
since this is... different. I'm pretty sure if I felt the need to ask my guests to pay for their own meal, I'd be going out of my way to have the
cheapest meal offered ever. I hope people drastically reduce the gift they give in response, since that seems appropriate to me.

don't you "pay" for your own meal by giving the couple money at the reception? If you choose to give a gift? you then basically cover your meal
cost that way?

My gift would be more than $60 per person, so if I paid for food, I'd consider that my gift.

Giving them a measuring cup set is the perfect slap in the face, if that's what you want to do. Be aware that you will be heartily gossiped about.
Personally, I like your moxie!

I wonder though if it ASKED for a check to be sent or some family member said they should.

Wow. Just...wow. Are they seriously expecting gifts after making their guests pay for their own food? Most people I know buy gifts that cost enough or give
money to cover the cost of their food plus a little extra. I've never heard of wedding guests having to pay for their own meal nevermind pay for their own
meal AND give a gift/money.
I want to know how it was worded on the invitation too! |

I'm so sick of these trifling ass people who use their weddings as a means to squeeze people for money every which way they can. You say you have to go
because you're family, but clearly being family means squat to your cousin if she's making you pay for your own meal. For that nonsense alone, I
wouldn't go nor would I give her a gift.

It wouldn't matter to me if they were related to me or not, I would not go, and I definitely would not send them money!

If they can't afford to have a wedding, then they shouldn't. I don't understand why that's so hard for people to understand. It's like
those people who took out mortgages they couldn't afford...and look where that got is

that is really tacky....you should totally go & get a group of friends to just leave in the middle of the dinner to go on a food run & then come back
with all of this food lol jk

You HAVE to scan this invite in so we can see it.
And fuck being family. They need to be embarrassed to death that only 1.3 people showed up to their wedding. |
