He said it twice in my class yesterday. First he called one of my other students the word, (which I didn't hear) then he said it again, referring to the same student, RIGHT in front of me. I wrote a discipline referral for the kid. We have a part about discrimination and hate speech in our student handbook, which I read to all my classes on the first day of school. I told them that kind of stuff is one thing I absolutely WILL NOT tolerate, and I would write them up if I hear it.
Today I find out that the kid got "counseled" and that's it. No ISS, no OSS, nothing. And this isn't the kid's first offense by far. I'm so angry that I'm considering quitting my job, right now, over this. All I can do is call home and give break detention; any other punishment is decided by an administrator. I can't believe I CHOSE to work somewhere where the adminstrators find this kind of stuff ok. I don't remember when I've been this angry before.
