Jane Smith wrote:I did avoid Sunshine for a while since it seemed so different from her other work. Beauty is one of my all-time favorite books. But once I broke down and gave it a try, it was true to her style. My sister doesn't believe me and won't read it. But I like it. |

Never read it but people rave about the Silver Kiss. Its older and it sounds like something that mightve inspired twilight. YA.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward is AWESOME. The books titles are all Lover Unbound, Lover Enshrined, Lover Awakened, Lover Revealed... sounds
smutty because it is. But a VERY GOOD read and totally different.

My roommate likes the vampire series by Charlaine Harris. I think there's about 6 books in the series. They are making it into an HBO series with Anna
Paquin playing the lead role.

I'm catching up on all of the Twilights posts here at JJB and I just wanted to drop in and recommend two books. They're
both in the young adult category so you might like them. I read all of them before I got into Twilight. They all have really good descriptions about
vampire/human relationships and how they struggle with them. I included some descriptions I found on wikipedia.
Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde Kerry Nowicki only goes to the laundromat at 11:00 at night to retrieve her little brother's bear, because she can't stand to see Ian cry - not since their mom left. But when she gets there, she walks in on three men dragging in another younger man, Ethan, gagged, bound and bloodied and who they insist is a Vampire.Ethans real name is Micheal. Kerry helps Ethan escape, and once they finally do, Kerry realizes that he really is a Vampire after all. When her family is kidnapped and another vampire is killed, she finds herself in his possession, helping him track down this new Vampire Hunter as the only way to find her family. It is a story that measures the value of life, death, and, most importantly, about choices. [There's a scene at the end with lots of action that gets tied together with opera music playing. It's fantastic. I would love to see it made into a movie.] The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause Zoe is 16 and facing bereavement: her mother is dying of cancer, and her father seems to be excluding her from her mother's hospital bedside. No one dares speak to Zoe about the family tragedy, and she is isolated by grief, anger and fear. Then she meets the alluring, enigmatic Simon who has an uncanny ability to recognize her feelings. After a series of nocturnal meetings, Zoe learns that Simon is a vampire kept alive by his thirst to avenge the death of his own mother three centuries ago. Drawn to him by an empathy charged with both longing and fear, Zoe agrees to participate in a dangerous scheme to trap Simon's mother's supernatural killer. The two emerge from their encounter able to mourn and acknowledge their losses. Also there's the Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith and if you want an enjoyable werewolf novel there's another books called Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause. |

I like the series about Anita Blake by Laurell K Hamilton. It's kind of like a cross between Buffy and Sue Grafton. Only book 1 to about 5 though, then it
went to crap.
