There's even a moment in Dreamgirls that totally rips off Sparkle. In Sparkle, the announcer accidentally introduces the group as The Farts, not The
Hearts. In Dreamgirls, the guy says The Creamettes instead of The Dreamettes.

In Dreamgirls, the guy says The Creamettes instead of The Dreamettes. Yeah, the success of the movie inspired the Broadway production of Dreamgirls. That's where the name Effie came from, too. Ironically, they re-released Sparkle on DVD with the cover redone to look like the Dreamgirls DVD cover.

Granted this is from Wikipedia, but apparently, they're hoping for Jordin Sparks as Sparkle and Chris Brown as Stix.
The DVD of Sparkle is a little crap though. It's just the movie, which looks a bit grainy, and a trailer. Damn, did Warner Bros. throw out anything else to do with the movie, including stereo recording sessions? (The sound is in mono.) It does come with a second disc, which is just a CD with like five songs from the Aretha album. |
