I don't really judge based on what people buy but I'm always embarrassed when I buy premade food (like dinner in a box or a TV dinner) over the raw
ingredients to make it myself. Like I'm a loser who can't cook for herself so I have to buy stuff that's premade.
I can actually cook a lot of stuff, I'm just lazy. |

Me, toooo. I agree with the person who even said she's embarrassed if 99% of the cart is healthy stuff, but then that last 1% is unhealthy. I feel like
that 1% is defining my whole shopping experience.

Yes, so sometimes I take some stuff that I don't really need before checking out. But I would also go back the next week or after to buy what I previously
didn't buy.
And I also look at what other people buy and I would judge if someone who was big/fat would fill their carts with lots of junk. |

I AM conscious of what I'm putting into my cart and also what other people have in theirs. I tend to think Americans on the whole have a pretty poor diet
and I try not to buy more than 1 junkfood item at a time.

I don't buy junk food. My cart is non interesting, like, chicken, vegies, fruits, fish, rice; stuff like that
I do however get embarrassed buying tampons and such

The only time I have hidden things in my cart or on the register was when I was younger and buying tampons.
I do sometimes get some looks when I buy things for my class (fruit snacks or like bags of air heads, things like that). I will usually ask to have that stuff put in separate bags and I get another wth? look, I will just say it goes to my classroom. That usually shuts them up.

I don't feel any shame about the foods I buy ... however i will look at what other people have in their carts.
I don't judge but I like seeing people have healthy foods in their carts and sometimes it makes me feel a little sad when I see a family with a bunch of kids and all that is in their carts are sugary/ salty snack foods and prepackaged/ prepared foods like french fries, chef boyardee, etc. I also used to live in the city and would sometimes see people using food stamps or EBT (I am not really sure what the term is) and buy stuff like individual pop cans, snack foods and I would wonder why they wouldn't buy things like eggs, milk, produce, etc which would actually be cheaper and more nutritious than expensive snack foods and individual pop cans. I am so frugal that I would never buy individual pop cans and I really limit my spending on snack foods because it is expensive and adds up. |

I have never heard of people checking out what other people are buying in the grocery store. I can't believe people actually do that.
Anyway, I don't buy junk food anymore, but even when I did, I was never embarrassed by it. I'm not embarrassed about anything I buy. Cover all of my shopping costs for me and then maybe I'll actually give a shit about what you think. |

LOL funny story... this happened like a month ago:
my boyfriend and i just moved to a new apartment and he clogged the toilet, and we did not have a plunger. so i had to pee bad and was irritated so he went to the store to get a plunger. well, since i was inconvenienced (and he is sweet) he got me flowers, too. at the checkout, all the ppl behind him were snickering and the checkout lady as well so he just goes "it's EXACTLY what it looks like." and they all started laughing. when he got home and told me, i thought it was the funniest thing!

Yeah, healthy foods are generally not cheaper than junk foods. That's probably why the poorest states in the country are also the fattest states. I don't buy a lot of junk food, but I admit I usually check out the cart in front of me and wonder wtf they're doing with all that shit.
I agree it's more embarrassing to buy personal items. Like, buying lube? Always awkward. |
