I always wondered this: we learned about red pandas in grade school. I always feel like that's not necessarily the norm for kids in America. and it looks like that in this thread I grew up thinking it was common knowledge what these creatures are but i guess not?

I still have my stuffed red panda somewhere at home a stuffed animal, people! not like...taxidermy

I don't get why everyone is saying it is a raccoon. Isn't a red panda an actual species of animal? I mean, it is a red panda whether you think it looks like a raccoon or not type deal.

yeah red pandas aren't actually considered bears, people it's called a red panda, not a red panda bear. actually there has been much debate over whether panda bears are actually even bears themselves. they are so unique and different from other "traditional" bears especially in diet, that I think for a long time scientists debated whether or not they should even be classified in the bear category.

oh and bears & racoons don't have sex to make red pandas
