Same here. I got the belt, the hand, telephone cord, a metal pipe once, my mom's cane (she even left a permanent dent in my leg) and other stuff. Sometimes I got soap and Tabasco sauce. Now that I'm older, my mom has apologized profusely for doing what she did to me because she didn't know better and because she was beaten as a child herself. She stopped beating me once I got taller then her (the slaps across the face didn't, still got those every so often because I have a big bad mouth on me and I don't know when to shut up..I like to fight) and started to threaten to hit her back if she kept doing it to me. I did hit her once with a telephone which left a bruise! All the times she had hit me in my life, nothing was left, no mark, no bruise, no red mark. I was like WTF?! I know people are going to be all OMG to that last comment, but after being hit for no reason for a long time, I just snapped.

I look back at my life with her and yes, at times, I hated what she did, but I can understand why she did it. She was a single mother with parents breathing down her neck to be more responsible with me (we lived with my grandparent's most of my life) and she couldn't figure out how to say no to them. So she would hit me. Other times, I was just a wild rambunctious kid who wouldn't take no for an answer to anything and my mom didn't know how to handle me.

So after all I've dealt with and seen, I am against beating someone, there is no need. Sometimes my mother would threaten to hit me, but if I came to her like she asked, I wouldn't get hit. She'd sit with me and explain why she was angry and why I needed to be hit. But I'm not against a swat on the butt or hand, but that would only come after all other options have been exhausted.
