I guess I'm just hard-hearted because IMO, Nick didn't ruin that guy's life. They BOTH did. He was in that car with no seatbelt knowing they were
going to drag-race. That's about the same as a person getting into a car with a visibibly drunk driver and then taking none of the blame if they are
injured when there is an accident.

Even if he didnt buckle the seat belt, the driver of the vehicle is still responsible for what happens.

I really liked that judge too. He seemed like a good guy.
John is going to be suffering the consequence for his actions for the rest of his life. Nick should have to suffer some consequences too. |

I don't know about anyone else, but if a friend gets in my car and doesn't put on their seatbelt I remind them to. It's my car and my
responsibility.

That's not how the law works. Nick was the driver, it's his responsibility to make sure his passengers are using seat belts. Was the other dude just as
much fault for what happen, yes. He's a grown ass man and nobody needs to tell him to hey put your seatbelt on, don't drag race, don't ride with
drunk drivers especially underage ones. But that's now how the laws are, you're driving the car, you're responsible.

Because the other kid isn't being brought up on charges. Being a passenger in a car without a seatbelt isn't illegal. That is something that will be
brought up to limit the damages in a civil trial. Nick's conduct was against the law.. and that is what he is being punished for alone. I get where people
think his friend not wearing a seatbelt is relevant but it doesn't really have to do with the criminal issue. I'm having a hard time understanding why
people aren't separating the two because its not relevant to his criminal trial since drag racing is illegal, he was drinking, and he had a passenger with
no seatbelt on which depending on the state (I couldn't see the CNN feed) is also his responsibility criminally. How can they hold the other guy
responsible for criminal shit Nick did? Yeah, his conduct is important as to how much the Hogan's are going to have to pay but his conduct wasn't
illegal.. and Nick's was against the law.

dlistedceleb wrote: Not true in Ohio. Here the front-seat passenger pays a fine for not wearing his or her seatbelt:
Seat Belt Rules for Front-Seat RidersDrivers and front-seat passengers must wear a selt belt, even if air bags are available. Drivers can get hit with a $30 fine, and passengers with a $20 fine, for ignoring the rule. However, since disobeying the seat belt rule isn't considered to be a moving offense, no points will be applied to a driving record. |

I feel kinda bad that they didn't let him say bye to his family, he just sorta waved and that was it. I'm glad he got some sort of jail time though.

1. Can a passenger in a motor vehicle be ticketed for not wearing a safety belt? Yes. All front seat occupants must buckle up, regardless of age. Passengers under the age of 18 must be belted in either the front or back seat of the vehicle. |

Yeah, I'm hoping he serves all of it...but that's probably not going to happen.
People just don't realize how unsafe cars & alcohol are together...even just cars are pretty dangerous when you think about it. Being a passenger in a car without a seatbelt isn't illegal. I didn't know that! Here in the "Republic of California" (as my relocated-to-Nevada friend calls it) seat belts are mandatory, and you can get a ticket if you're a passenger over 16 and not wearing one (under 16 and the driver gets your ticket). |

His charge was reckless driving. It's not just for not getting the passenger to buckle up; he was street racing.
