Coldplay???? They couldn't even stand the test of 2 years!!!! Erm...please explain? And when I said Umberella, I didn't mean Rhianna would be a classic artist. She doesn't bring much to the song. It's the song itself- it's one of the best pop songs from this decade. |

Beautiful? The song is barely recognized TODAY why would anyone be talking about it say...5 or 10 years from now?
The only songs I think will be classics will be the songs that Artists first released. Or other songs in their careers that were equally as huge or memorable. |

The songs that will be "classics" to me are the songs that years from now are memorable. That people will think of and still love. It doesn't
necessarily have to be a genius song with genius vocals and "credibility. Secondly, people have individual taste.
"Beautiful" to me, will be very memorable. |

Music in the last 10 years has been crap. I still have my favorites and I love certain songs, but when I think about lyrics wise, songs nowadays rhyme the with
the. It is so sad. And people not having to be singers anymore, their voices can be changed by computer and they just have to look sexy or cute.
It is crazy. It reminds me of movies nowadays as well. Movies have lost their quality level in my opinion. They don't have to bother with great story lines anymore or great acting. Just make sure the picture has nice color quality, the stars show T&A or pout their lips or whatever and of course, the CGI graphics, that'll bring them in. |

The very first song that came to mind when I saw this title is not from TODAY (2008) but from "today" meaning our (well, my) generation:
Karma Police by Radiohead. That song is the shit, loved by a lot of the general population and critics alike. I think in 20 years, people who know songs from previous generations will know Karma Police and they will sing its praises. And musicians talking about what made them become musicians will answer interview questions with, "I remember the first time I heard Karma Police..." |

I think it does depend on how we're really defining classics here.
I would agree with songs like this: Iris, Angel, Don't Wanna Miss A Thing, I'll Be Missing You, Bye Bye Bye..I think. I mean it might seem funny to say BBB would be one, but I think people years from no will hear it and jam out to it still. Or perhaps that will just be my lameass, who knows?
When I listen to the 90s station on satellite I think a lot of those songs might be considered "classics" years from now too. |

All the songs you all are posting are just okay songs. Sure I like a lot of them, but I think they're forgettable. I can't think of anything that would
be considered classic material. However, I'm willing to bet 30 years ago, people weren't trying to guess what songs would eventually be classics.
As for groups like RHCP and Metallica, I think because there will always be classic rock, they won't have anything to worry about. |

I would be embarrassed if our generation was remembered for half the songs some people are suggesting. |

Some of you keep saying things like "That song has already been forgotten!" or "What? Coldplay's over now"....The public's opinion
of a song or artist within a decade of it's release and peak popularity isn't necessarily indicative of how it will be received in the waaaay distant
future. That's why this is such an interesting question.

Coldplay- anything by them, Adele (I just discovered her and shes amazing) for example Hometown Glory, James Morrison (Home Come), Amy Whinehouse (anything
really), Kanye (Flashing Lights, Stronger) Mos Def (Miss Fat Booty) I think there is really good music coming out mainly because I do my own searchs for it. I
dont listen to radio or have any video channels so I guess that helps.

I'd seriously kill myself if a song titled 'Miss Fat Booty' was ever considered a classic. Ugh.

A lot of craptastic pop songs can still be considered classic pop music in the future.
By classic, do you have a specific kind of music genre? I mean look at YMCA, that is considered a classic, isn't it? |
