In Disney's upcoming MALEFICENT, starring Angelina Jolie in the title role, the self-proclaimed Mistress of All Evil looks to be utilizing a new power.
As you can see, Angelina Jolie is attached to a rig being handled by a couple of lucky dudes in head to toe body stockings. The obvious assumption is that Maleficent will have the ability to fly. Now, I haven't watched SLEEPING BEAUTY since my niece was little, but I recall Maleficent being able to teleport and transform into a dragon, but she never flew.
You can clearly see that the previous assumptions are correct: Maleficent's horns in the film look to be sprouting from her head, not a headress as in the animated film. This may tie directly into her dragon-like nature. I hope her back story does not say she is the unholy spawn of man mating with dragon. That would be a little ridiculous. But, then again, she is a flying woman with horns, so all bets are off.

Last August, hairstylist Ted Gibson, who counts Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard and Angelina Jolie as clients, began a Facebook page called "We Need an Oscar for Hair" to bring a change in the way Oscars are given to the makeup and hairstyling branches of the Academy. (In past years, hairstylists fell under the Best Makeup category.)
"It's time for hairdressers to be recognized. We need to bring awareness to the Academy," he told The Hollywood Reporter at the time the campaign kicked off. Today, his movement had a major success: The Academy changed the category title from Best Makeup to the Makeup and Hairstyling Award. "I am so excited that the Academy is finally recognizing hairdressers in films. It's a great start," says Gibson. "People have gone to the Academy for decades to try to get hair on the ballot and they haven't responded at all. I feel proud to be part of the movement to make a change."

JOLIE’S JEWELS ON SHOW: Jeweler Robert Procop is heading to the South of France this summer to showcase Style of Jolie, the designs he creates in collaboration with Angelina Jolie, along with a number of pieces from his own Exceptional Jewels collection. From July 15, the jeweler will hold two pop-up showcases, at the Grand Hotel in Cap Ferrat and at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco, which will concurrently run through to Aug. 15. “It’s the one place where everyone loves to spend their summer,” said Procop. Jolie, whose engagement ring Procop created with Brad Pitt, is expected to visit the showcase with Pitt during the summer. All proceeds from the Style of Jolie line go towards the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, Jolie’s charitable foundation. With the proceeds of the pieces that have been sold since the line’s launch in late 2010, the foundation has just finished building a school in Afghanistan. Procop plans for the limited-edition Style of Jolie collection, which had previously been sold only by private appointment, to launch at select boutiques from September in countries including Russia, China, the U.S. and Turkey. “We’re looking for quality jewelers who have a heart for the charity as well,” said Procop.

Actor David Morse is urging movie fans to be patient for Brad Pitt's new film World War Z - because the zombie war project will be worth the wait.
Pitt has been called back for seven weeks of reshoots this summer amid reports suggesting Lost co-creator and Prometheus screenwriter Damon Lindelof has been drafted in to salvage director Marc Forster's movie.
The troubled blockbuster, which Pitt is also producing, wrapped last year, but it appears movie executives are far from happy with the end product and they've pushed the film's release from December to next June to allow for the extra work to be done.
But Pitt's co-star Morse insists the film will be a blockbuster whenever it comes out.
He tells WENN, "It is Brad Pitt chasing down zombies all over the world... You will see zillions and billions of zombies like you've never seen. These ones just don't walk around drooling; they're quick on their feet.
"I'm somebody who survives and has secrets that sends Brad Pitt on his way. I think it's gonna be an amazing movie."

The Hollywood couple raise six children together; Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne. The Jolie-Pitt clan are continually jet-setting and Angelina has revealed how Brad keeps their brood entertained on trips.
"Brad is very good at making sure the children never feel stressed when we're moving around. He always makes them see it as a little game that we have to play which in a way it is," she smiled in an interview with British magazine OK!
"But we also know we have a very interesting life together and we've just adapted to make things as easy as possible for the kids so they can grow up as happy as possible."
Angelina has landed the title role in Disney film Maleficent. The stunning star has revealed what interested her in working on the family-friendly project.
"I wanted to do something for my children. They've been calling me Mom-elicent and they keep asking me about when I'm going to start working on the film," she laughed.

LONDON -- There will be amazing performances and memorable scenes all over Britain this summer. And only some of them will involve medals.
Alongside the sporting contest is an entertainment extravaganza that will bring stars and celebrities from Paul McCartney to Brangelina to London during the Games.
Britain is organizing a banquet designed to demonstrate -- as Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt put it -- that "culture is to Britain what the sun is to Spain."
Culture is a $177 billion a year business in Britain, and music is one of the country's biggest exports, so it's no surprise that the Games will be accompanied by a melodic soundtrack of summer concerts.
On July 21-22, the "River of Music" will feature six stages along the Thames -- each named for a different continent -- with music from artists including Baaba Maal, Wynton Marsalis, the Kronos Quartet and the Scissor Sisters.
The arrival of the Olympic Torch on July 26 will be celebrated with a concert in Hyde Park featuring Wretch 32, Dizzee Rascal, the Wanted and Mark Ronson.
The next day Paul McCartney will close the opening ceremony, a three-hour extravaganza directed by "Slumdog Millionaire" filmmaker Danny Boyle. Across town in Hyde Park, Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, Paolo Nutini and 1980s heartthrobs Duran Duran are headlining a celebratory concert.
Outdoor concerts will continue in the park throughout the Games, with Rebecca Ferguson, Alexandra Burke, Amy Macdonald and Alyssa Reid among
A musical theme also dominates the Aug. 12 closing ceremony, billed as "A Symphony of British Music," with George Michael, Take That and the Who rumored to be taking part. In Hyde Park, Blur, New Order and the Specials are lined up for a closing-night concert.
London also is hosting the Paralympic Games between Aug. 29 and Sept. 9, and Coldplay is scheduled to headline the closing ceremony.
Beyond Olympic Park, London is putting on its best public face for visitors, with outdoor performances, free film screenings, and museum exhibitions all contributing to what the mayor's office has dubbed "a summer like no other."
Giant screens dotted around London will show the Olympic action for an estimated 3 million people, with an array of entertainment provided alongside the sports.
A cornucopia of arts events is taking place as part of the London 2012 Festival, which runs to Sept. 9 and involves some 12,000 events featuring 25,000 artists from around the world.

EXCLUSIVE: While reports had Damon Lindelof coming in to write a new ending to the Marc Forster-directed Brad Pitt-starrer World War Z, it actually was his Lost compadre, Drew Goddard, who did the bulk of the writing of the finale. Lindelof, who reworked Prometheus and co-wrote the Star Trek sequel, cracked a potential new ending of the film, but Lindelof didn’t have time to do the scripting so that task fell to Goddard, who most recently adapted Robopocalypse, which is Steven Spielberg’s next film at DreamWorks.
Both of those guys are off to other projects, so it’s quite possible that Paramount will tap another writer to punch up this ending, if the studio decides to use it. I’m hearing Christopher McQuarrie, whom the studio is high on after he adapted and directed Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher, based on the Lee Child novels. That isn’t set in stone because McQuarrie is Cruise’s go-to guy and he will be doing some script work on All You Need Is Kill, the Doug Liman-directed action film that Cruise will next star in after he completes Oblivion. So it is questionable whether he will be available or whether Paramount will need him. No date has been set for the reshoots that will be needed to implement the new ending, but insiders say that Forster will be shooting those scenes.
Much has been written about the problems on WWZ, and while those problems are legitimate ones, that doesn’t mean this movie is going to be a train wreck. It’s based on a superb Max Brooks novel, and the angle–looking back on the thwarting of a zombie apocalypse–is an original one. There is still a lot to be excited about here.

Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation (remember THE PINK PROJECT?) has sent us first images of the new home Frank Gehry designed for the initiative. Completed this week, the building is located in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward, the neighborhood most devastated by Hurricane Katrina back in August of 2005. To date, this is the only Gehry-designed home in Louisiana, and—complying with Make It Right's core mission—built to LEED Platinum certification standards.
Here's the official press release we've received from Make It Right:
July 13, 2012, New Orleans – Make It Right, founded by Brad Pitt to build sustainable homes for communities in need, is proud to announce the completion of the organization's first home by renowned architect Frank Gehry. Gehry's duplex design was completed this week in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward, the neighborhood most devastated by Hurricane Katrina. This home is one of only 22 Gehry residences in the United States and the only Gehry home in Louisiana.
“I really believe in what Brad is doing for the community and was honored to be included,” said Frank Gehry. “I wanted to make a house that I would like to live in and one that responded to the history, vernacular and climate of New Orleans. I love the colors that the homeowner chose. I could not have done it better.”
Design features of the 1780 square foot home include: front-to-back duplex organization allowing for maximum privacy between the homes, better flow of the interior spaces and a well-proportioned yard for each house; a waterproof solar canopy on the 510 square foot roof terrace and six additional canopied porches; open interior and exterior staircases; and oversized windows in the bedrooms.
The front house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms; the rear home has one bedroom and one bathroom. Bathrooms on both levels are stacked, staircases are stacked and the great room concept for living, dining and kitchen were included in the design for construction efficiency.
All Make It Right's homes are built to LEED Platinum certification standards. Please see the attached list for selected sustainability features on this home.
“Make It Right is so grateful to Frank and the team at Gehry Partners for designing this beautiful home,” said Tom Darden, Make It Right’s executive director. “Frank’s work proves that beautiful, elegant, ground-breaking designs can go hand-in-hand with the practical needs and culture of a community.”

That would be Sharlto Copley, the South African actor who came to attention three years ago with his starring role in "District 9" and who recently bagged the male lead in "Maleficent" opposite the superstar American actress. Speaking to the thesp on the Comic-Con press line for Blomkamp's upcoming sophomore effort "Elysium" - a sci-fi thriller in which he stars with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster - I got Copley to hold forth a little on the revisionist "Sleeping Beauty" tale, which is currently filming in London and which he'll be returning to just as soon as his run at Comic-Con 2012 is finished. "I'm so excited about that film," Copley told me. "It's this fairy tale movie, but it's got a real honesty and heart to it. It's almost like a more advanced version of fairytales. I think almost as society changes...[in] the old days [it] was very much, 'the prince and the princess live happily ever after, and the wicked queen is the wicked queen, and the good queen is the good queen.' But you know that real life is more complicated than that!

The South of France, the renowned playground for the wealthy and well-connected, is going to have a little more sparkle and glitter than usual with the public showing of the Style of Jolie jewelry collection.
The complete collection of jewelry created with emeralds, spinels, citrines, rubellites and quartz by actress and director Angelina Jolie and private jeweler Robert Procop goes on display Sunday at the Grand Hotel in Cap Ferret in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France. The viewing will run till August 15.
The collection is usually only available by appointment. The only other time the pieces appeared in public was during its unveiling in Los Angeles in April 2011. Proceeds from any sales made during the current showing of the collection will go toward Jolie’s foundation, “Education Partnership for Children of Conflict,” as always.
In an exclusive interview about the showcase with Procop, the designer says that the location in the world class hotel near Nice during the summer is an appropriate venue to display the jewelry.
“In presenting the collection in its entirety outside of our design studio, it allows for the inspiration, the charitable aspect and style to truly come to life and be more easily visually communicated,” he says. “We are still, essentially, working with private clients, in a more public forum.”
He continues, “I rarely do public displays, so when we decided to host the viewing, we knew it had to be in a location that would rival the exceptional jewels that will be on display. The Grand Hotel at Cap Ferret is an historical location and one of the most beautiful locations in the world. To visit the collection here, it becomes an even greater destination, one which is familiar to the true connoisseur, who would appreciate the purity and quality of both the locale and these artistic jewels.”
In addition, Procop says the setting still provides the type of exclusivity that is appropriate for the collection. He stresses that this is not a jewelry exhibit nor is it a retail setting.
“We are presenting the collection in an exclusive setting for those who would like to admire without a sense of salesmanship,” he says. “For those who would like to acquire part of this once in a lifetime collection and be part of the mission with Angelina help to educate children in need, and pieces will be available for sale.”
