Anyone from Phoenix/Glendale area on?

Posts: 463 06/24/2012 2:14 AM	we live in a hot spot for scorpions and can go out into our yard and easily catch 5-10, that is with monthly extermination. we find 5 or 6 in our house each month just cruising down the hall or going up the bedroom wall. we put a bell on one of our cats and when we hear it we know he is chasing one, he loves to eat them. we find them every day in our pool. as for coyotes, i was going to the main library on 59th ave a few months ago and one was crossing the road. my husband was in fountain hills a few weeks ago and crossed paths with a family of javelinas, in the parking lot of a fast food place. as far as valley fever goes, most people don't even know they have it. it is carried through the air in dust, which we have tons of. between construction and dust storms, it's everywhere. i am not going to sugar coat it and say this is the best place to live. i wonder all the time why i haven't moved back to fla. but for now it is home and has been for 20 yrs. you want honest answers, not just the good stuff.

Posts: 10306 06/24/2012 12:18 PM	I grew up in Scottsdale/Chandler and I've never even heard of valley fever sooooo I don't think it's that big of a problem. Personally I would never move back because I didn't find the people very friendly and there's not a lot to do other than shop and go to bars. But the weather is nice most of the year and most areas are very safe. It depends what's top of your priority list when looking for a place to live.

Posts: 15769 06/24/2012 12:25 PM	Thanks guys. I'm totally just very sensitive about my lungs. JustJN, I like honest answers. I hate when people give me all go the good but no bad. Christianne, people in Seattle aren't friendly either (though for some strange reason they think they are), it's safe and boring and unless you're an outdoorsy person, nothing to do here. Nightlife blows and the weather sucks, plus real estate is ridiculous. Simply I'm actually thinking about doing a long weekend there in a couple months.

Posts: 15769 06/24/2012 12:57 PM	I'm only outdoorsy if it includes getting out of a car and going into a building. I also love how close it is to other places. A friend used to live there and he said its an hour to Vegas, Mexico, la and you can drive o the mountains fairly quickly. Here, you drive three hours and the best you can hope for is Vancouver bc and an hour flight wold have you in be Oregon somewhere. I feel so trapped.

I've lived in Tempe for 12 years (originally from the east coast) and I can't speak for Glendale, but living in Phoenix is nice. The weather is great (even when it's hot, Flagstaff is a quick 2 hour drive away and a lot cooler). I've never seen a scorpion, crazy spider, snake, etc etc... but I make it a point to avoid places where those things tend to live. There's a lot of great shopping in Scottsdale and we have some amazing restaurants. I think the best part about living here is that you're (at most) a 6 hour drive to basically anywhere you'd want to go - Vegas, LA, San Diego, ski resorts, mountains, forests, whatever. The worst parts? The summers are pretty miserably hot (but stay inside - it's pretty much like an insane east coast winter, the same rules apply). Monsoons/haboobs/whatever are fun, again just stay inside and try not to get caught driving in them. People are pretty nice here, there's usually something to do. It's not a touristy place, it's somewhere you live, you know? You'll thrive here if you're: - outdoorsy - into bars - love to shop - like a relaxed, laid back lifestyle
