There's no way Anderson or NPH will be the co host even though they are both hilarious with Kelly. I'll be happy with either Michael Strahan or Jerry O'Connell although he just booked to the do the remake of the Munsters

SNL’s Seth Meyers in Lead to Co-Host with Kelly Ripa; Choices Narrowed to Final Three

EXCLUSIVE: Who’s going to sit next to Kelly Ripa come this September? That’s when Disney TV, ABC, and Michael Gellman have to make a decision name a successor to Regis Philbin. I am told that three names are in the finals, with one the probable winner. The names are Seth Meyers from “Saturday Night Live,” former football great Michael Strahan, and singer Josh Groban. Yes, all these names startled me, too. But then I looked at the July co-host schedule. Strahan just finished a few dates with Kelly.
But on Monday, July 9th, Meyers starts a five day stint. It’s the first Monday to Friday stint for any co-host since Neil Patrick Harris from Novem ber 28-December 2 last year. (And NPH is still unavailable, thanks to “How I Married Your Mother” on CBS.) I’m told that if Meyers gets the job, and it seems likely, he’ll still do the news on “Saturday Night Live.” He may have to resign as head writer of the show, however, given the “Live” schedule. Meyers has been a popular co-host for Kelly, having sat in the chair in April and then again in May for multiple appearances. (He was also on a few times before that.)
It also seems key that Meyers is doing a full week in the middle of July sweeps. This is a big test.
Ripa’s preference for pal Anderson Cooper is well known, but unlikely since Cooper already has two shows — one on CNN and one in syndication. Others who’d like the gig have not been asked back as many times as Meyers. Strahan has been a strong contender, but in the end, I’m told, it’s Meyers who has the widest appeal, background and strengths.
No one’s asked me, and when I heard about Meyers I admit I was surprised. But the guy is very smart, and talented, and quick on his feet. Also, he’s been on “Saturday Night Live” forever, but can’t stay there for the rest of his life. He hasn’t developed a movie career or any outside career, really. So what to do next? He needs a talk show. Everything at night is taken. “Live with Kelly and Seth” may actually be a very smart move. Meyers would be a welcome addition to the show on a permanent basis–no matter how much we miss Regis!

AH HAH. I knew Seth would be perfect! The head writing gig at SNL was the only obstacle, but everyone at SNL moves on eventually and he's been there a long time so he's probably ready for a change.

Strahan seems to work better when I've watched, but, considering how little I do watch, I'm all for Seth if it gets SNL free from his clutches.

Hah if anyone is wondering why Michael isn't getting the job, it's probably because he doesn't want it. Or rather, his fiancee won't allow him to have it. I didn't realize until recently that he's with Nicole Murphy, a.k.a. Eddie Murphy's ex. And I didn't realize until TODAY (when I sat down to watch the three episodes on my TiVo) that she's on Hollywood Exes and she's clearly the HBIC. Oh plus I just can't see her moving her life (and her 5 kids) to New York.

I wonder how much Regis was weighing them down with his salary? Since he left the show seemed to have opened up a huge budget door. They went to LA for shows, Canada for a week of shows, Hawaii for a week of shows, they got a brand new set.

They've won Emmy's and the ratings are up.

Guess the report was wrong

If the team behind "Live! With Kelly" is considering "Saturday Night Live" head writer Seth Meyers for the show's open co-hosting position, Meyers doesn't seem to be aware of it. The comedian said in a recent interview that he's focused on the job he currently has.

When the Orlando Sun-Sentinel inquired as to whether Meyers is getting ready to fill the chair of longtime "Live!" co-host Regis Philbin, who departed last year, Meyers was pretty frank, telling the paper: "No, no, no, no, no."

"I know [Philbin's] replacement is a very important thing down there," Meyers said on a call from New York. "But, right now, what I would say to you: I'm really in love with the job I have. I'm very excited to be going back [to 'SNL'] for the election season, which is always fun."

No hard feelings for CNN.com readers, we're sure, as many of you are rooting for Michael Strahan to land the position anyway. The former NFL great was rumored to be on a list of three contenders for the co-hosting job alongisde Kelly Ripa on "Live!," with the other two being Meyers, of course, and Josh Groban.

For her part, Ripa kidded with Jimmy Fallon on "Late Night" Tuesday that Meyers isn't quite prepared for the job anyway.

"When you see Seth Meyers in the morning, it is like looking at a vampire," Ripa said of the "SNL" star, who's been hosting alongside her all week. "He's not ready - he's like, 'How do you do this everyday?'"

Damn it, that sucks. I think he'd be a fool to take himself out of the running because of SNL, though. Let's be honest, how much longer does that show have, anyways? And like I said before, everyone leaves SNL for bigger and better things, and because he's not exactly an actor then Live is as good as he's going to get.

I'm really surprised that Josh Groban's name keeps being brought up as a serious contender. Don't get me wrong, I do like him a lot, but I feel like he'll have to travel way too much to do it. I also said before that when they get someone, he has to be it for awhile. None of this taking time off every month to do other stuff.

Okay I have to bump this because I think my new favorite co-host is Joel McHale. Thoughts? I think Community is probably ending soon, and he's done The Soup from other locations so he could probably do it from New York. I'm not sure if he'd pack up his family and move, but who knows. He does have awkward times, and times when he's trying TOO hard to be funny, but overall I think I've laughed more these past few days with him than with anyone else.

I've enjoyed Joel but I think he was a bit too much for them at times. He had a movie career going on now in addition to the two shows so I can't see him as a permanent replacement.

I think this is taking longer than it took to replace Kathie Lee (which is should b/c Kathie Lee was no Regis).

Anderson Cooper has new plans for the second season of his talk show, including a name and format change.

Cooper's one-hour daily syndicated talk show, "Anderson Live," will kick off Sept. 10 with a new set and live format with rotating co-hosts, executive producer Terence Noonan said.

It will be taped in front of a studio audience at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City, but will have "live capabilities" that will enable Cooper to cover stories while they are breaking and update viewers with the latest news.

Celeb interviews already lined up include Richard Gere, Emma Watson, Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell, Mindy Kaling, Kerry Washington, Stephen Colbert and Carol Burnett.

I love Joel McHale. Liked him on the Soup, fell in love with him on Community. And it's true Community will probably make it through just one more season (but I'm hoping it will be around longer). I've only seen him co-host once and I thought he was super awkward, he seemed really tired and just kind of out of it that morning. He was also super toned down, but that's what he needs for a morning show.

But I'd still love to see him do it! I think he would improve over time. But I don't know how it would really work with his schedule if Community did continue after this season.

Yikes. I wonder who it will be. Somehow I don't think I'm going to be thrilled with it (unless of course it's Regis!).

I'm sure it will leak in advance of Sept. 4.
