Posts: 24644 05/30/2012 11:30 AM	I know they tell you to drink fluids beforehand but I'm wondering if they will have drinks available while I'm there. I would call back but I'm afraid to sound like a freeloader

Posts: 1391 05/30/2012 11:39 AM	Yes they should have some. I've never been to a donation site without drinks. You don't sound like a freeloader at all. And that's great you're donating btw! I've had multiple blood tranfusions this year - saved my life, so thanks - if that makes sense!

I am O+ and the blood bank is always sending me notices saying how desperate they are for this type of blood. I feel like I should give blood, it's really the least I could do.

Posts: 31658 05/30/2012 3:01 PM	They'll have orange juice and snacks. Some people get light headed so they make sure you can have some food/liquid before you leave. I helped at one last weekend for a little bit. I couldn't donate because of a cancer medication I'm on, but it was a blood drive in honor of my friend's son who was killed a couple months ago in Afghanistan so I still wanted to help.

Posts: 917 05/30/2012 3:25 PM	the bloodmobile that i go to always has drinks there..and yes it is crucial to drink alot before hand.the time before last i tried to give blood and didnt drink enough and they stuck me and the blood maybe went 2 inches into the tubing and stopped..so the following Monday i went in and i had made sure i had drank plenty and the stick was no problem..i want to donate again but i cant until the 25th of June

Posts: 706 05/30/2012 6:53 PM	Make sure to eat, I donated on tuesday and i fainted 5 minutes after the process was finished. Apparently i was coming down with the flu but i didn't know i have been in bed since i came back to the hospital. It didn't make me want to stop donating. Its extremely rewarding and even better if you can donate platelets. Good luck. DRINK LOADS

Was it Tamoxifen that prevented you from donating? For some reason, I assumed it wasn't a barrier to donating. I was looking forward to donating next month when I hit my 2-year anniversary of end-of-treatment.
