And yeah, I think at some point they reference that she's American born (from New York originally I think, it's been a while since I saw the first season) and her accent is odd cause she's been living in London for an extended amount of time.

So he married Cora, a wealthy American for her money. After the marriage, his dad tied all of her finances to the estate. He did that so she could not divorce and take her money back to America. But in doing that, he made it so that the estate and all the money could only pass to male heirs.

Amazing show...I love all the characters, especially Lady Sybil <3 Lady Mary and Granny aren't bad either...I've grown to really love Granny! And of course, Matthew and Mary....I can't wait to see them get married and start a life together.

I ended up watching the entire series thus far in a weekend, and then was so impatient when I had to wait till the last 2 episodes aired. The show is pretty much perfection imo. Now we have to wait till 2013? Shit.
