I don't know about staying at home me and my mom are ready to kill each other. I'm 24 and am just so ready to be on my own. I already plan on staying home a few months after grad to save up and pay down debts so finishing in december will be even longer. Also glad to see so many were still able to buy homes. I know its gonna take a few years to rebuild my credit though.

Otherwise, not to be Debbie Downer, but everyone in college thinks they'll be in demand until they graduate and see how the recession is

But you guys are right that doesn't mean I'm a shoe in. I've had that scenario happen to me before when applying for jobs. I'm going to start applying early cause my worst fear is spending months without a job. Although my old employer is always begging me to come back the pay is really low and I would have to work 2 jobs if necessary. Plus I really don't wanna be in that field but we'll see.I'm also looking at my debt to income ratio esp compared to other recent grads. Most when they come out on top of the loans have to buy a car plus have lots of credit card debt. My car is almost paid off as I bought it freshman year, and I don't have a lot of credit debt and what little I do have I'll pay off while living at home so hopefully that helps.

Have you researched starting salaries for working in the human services field? Please don't take this the wrong way, but you seem grossly unprepared for life after school based on your posts in this thread. Most people with a B.A. in social/human services start out in the mid 20K to low 30K. That is not a lot of salary to work with if you want to have a mortgage, unless you are putting something like a 50% down payment lol. I have my master's in clinical psych, 5 yrs experience and it took me 9 mos and several interviews before I got offered a new job. Many of the child welfare agencies are state agencies, and state budgets have been cut drastically across the country. Even the nonprofits are getting hit hard in this economy. And for most college grads these days, an internship is the minimum necessary to be even considered a candidate...but that doesn't guarantee the job. Start talking to your professors, supervisors, etc and get a good picture of what the job market is like where you live and what the average starting salary is.
