I love to read and love watching movies. But sometimes when the books i love get turned into a movie they lose some of their...well goodness. Some are the
exception though. I really liked Clockwork Orange and some few others. I just finished The memory keepers daughter..just in time too..Lifetime is turning THAT
into a movie and thats airing this Saturday night at 9pm. Which ones do you guys like? which ones were just terrible?

I liked The Green Mile...just cause it stuck to the book a lot more than most book inspired movies do.
I hated Memoirs of a Geisha, though. Even though it was like two and a half hours long, it still wasn't long enough, for as much of the book as they tried to pack in. |

I always like the books better than the movie. I got so pissed at Riding In Cars With Boys. The movie its self wasn't bad at all .. but they left out a
huge chunk of the book! And to my knowledge (I haven't read the book in years) the whole ending where the kid goes to see the dad and he signs the release
papers was completely made up.

I usually like the books better than the movies, but there are a few notable exceptions.
I liked Bridget Jones the movie a lot. Hated the book. I really liked The Virgin Suicides, both the book and the movie. For this instance, I can't consider them the same thing, they were both really well made but took the story in two equally great directions. IMHO. I have great respect for the LOTR films. PJ really respected and loved the material, which is why the adaptations came out so well. And I love the books too. I liked the way A Walk to Remember was adapted into film. Book was pretty good too. Loved Charms for the Easy Life. Great book too.
I'll get back to you eventually on the stinky adaptations. Hahaha. |

I liked the first two film adaptations of the first two Harry Potter books: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I hated the rest of the adaptations. Two other films I liked that were originally books first are Sense & Sensibility (with Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson) and
Pride & Prejudice (the 2005 version with Keira Knightley). I read both books, and I think the films were as good as the books. I've
seen the 1995 version of P&P, and that one definitely stays true to the book, but I still like the 2005 version more.

I hated the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice. There's no way it was ever going to be as good as the '95 one and they should never have tried to
adapt it into a 2 hour movie. I thought it was wrong on almost all levels.
My personal favourite would probably be To Kill A Mockingbird. I loved the book and the film equally. |

Loved Charms for the Easy Life. Great book too. i seriously thought i was the only person who ever read that book. p&p'05 wins over '95 for me. even though i've seen both and read the book. 95 is true to the book...but, im not looking for a word for word adaptation. 05, for a 2hr movie, pretty much cuts to the chase, but still keeps the spirit of the book. maybe i should watch it tonight... |

I just can't see Cameron in My Sister's Keeper--I think she was a terrible choice to play the mother.

Sooooooooo who else watched "Memory Keeper's Daughter" this Saturday? I watched it and thought wow Gretchen Mol did a much better job acting in
3:10 to Yuma and Dermot Mulroney did a much better job in this movie than he did in "Wedding Date." Emily Watson was of course brilliant because she
can do know wrong. I liked the movie a lot but the book is better.

Mysterious Skin - I liked the book a lot and thought the movie was pretty good. Disturbing, but good.
Devil Wears Prada is another good adaptation. |

I remember now.
HATED the "Wrinkle in Time" adaptation. Loved Gregory Smith as Calvin, and David Dorfman as Charles Wallace. Love Katie Stuart, but she wasn't Meg. The liberties they took with the story was apeshit. Love me some Deschanel (Zooey or Emily), and love me some Sam Rockwell, but I hated the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy adaptation. Not cool. HAAAAAAAAAAAATED "Wedding Date". I adored the original novel -- it was funny, lots of relatable qualities, lots of fun Brit references. The girl was British, and kooky, and overweight and somewhat insecure but absolutely lovable. Supporting characters were lovely. Seriously awesome. Then they made the girl American, and made her skinny. Removed all other fun aspects of the story, except kept the most of it in England. They took away so much from the book, it is NOT amusing.

I've never read the Wedding Date, but the film itself is really weird.
I just watched the recent BBC adaptation of Sense and Sensibility and I loved it. I didn't like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants film. Ugh, there is so much I disliked about that movie. |

Out if sight is probably one of the best movie adapted from a book
i also loved both book and movie for Bridget Jones & The Devil wears Prada (except the very end) . and i can't wait to see how 'Blindness' with Julianne more turn out, it's one of my favorit book. |
