Thriller is the best-selling album in terms of total global sales - about 50-60 million worldwide. However, right now, The Eagles' Greatest Hits is 29X platinum in the US, while Thriller is 28X platinum.

The Eagles album hasn't sold that much in the US or worldwide according to the lists I can find. Everything says Thriller.

Correction, I just checked the RIAA and in the US Eagles are at 29 million and Thriller is at 28 million.

Ah, it's the Eagles in the US. A while back Thriller was at about 50 million I think and then after it was announced it had sold 100 million records (albums and singles) worldwide people started quoting that as the actual album sales. They're quoting it at about 55 million worldwide on some of the main news networks. I wonder how much more it'll sell. Nothing is ever going to come anywhere near close to that figure.

Oh ok. I wonder why they say it's the 2nd best selling of all time without including "in the US"? Seems misleading and I think it's more newsworthy that he has the best selling album in the world rather than 2nd in the US

I always thought it was the Bee Gees: soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever that was the best selling...until Thriller.

I believe yeah, it's the Eagles Greatest Hits.

Dark Side of the Moon has to be up there. It holds the record for longest time on the charts.

I don't think it is in the US. I remember some debate about a Pink Floyd album surpassing it but that was before the 25th anniversary edition was released. I don't know. It is worldwide though. The figure is somewhere between 50 and just over 60 million now I think (though sometimes people quote the record sales of over 100million as the album sales).

I thought Thriller was number one because it sold over 50 million copies worldwide....or atleast that's what I heard yesterday. I actually thought it was more than 50.

Thriller has sold over 100 million worldwide......it's number one. Back in Black from AC/DC is next closest and it's not quite at 50 million. I know my source is Wikipedia but it's all linked with real sources.
