Manayunk is sweet. Lots of my friends have lived there and all of them liked it. Parking is sometimes a bitch but otherwise no complaints. Right on the train line.

Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Olde City are artsy places. Umm.. I'm trying to think of others. Olde City is really touristy too.

lol.. so therefore the west philly/overbrook area is now ruled out.. see that was easy. Philly is a big place with a lot of areas and several artsy/music scene areas.

Have you looked into West Philly at all? I live in University City and I think it's one of the best areas to live in, honestly. It has such a great mix of residents...UPenn and Drexel are in the area, so there are a lot of college students around (and lots of campus cops around, so I think it's pretty safe). Then the actual residents are very mix. There's a sizeable population of Ethiopians in the area and within a few blocks you can pass a mosque, catholic church, or baptist...

Do you know anyone up around the area? I'm on the other side of the bridge in NJ and I love it. I like to visit Philadelphia but I don't think I'd like to live there or anything.

that's true.. but you could make a vacation out of it.. you can come see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, visit Atlantic City, New York, and all the different areas.. there may be a cheap flight to come here on Southwest or US Air..

Manayunk is much,much nicer than Fishtown.. Fishtown could be a very different place in 2 yrs, so don't rule it out entirely, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Philly is a great place to live, we are close to the ocean and New York. I'm in the Northeast, I live along the Delaware River. I'm right off of 95 and rt 1 so I can be downtown in 15 min, manayunk in 30, Atlantic City in an hour and 10 min if that, and I live by the train station to get to Jersey or I'm 40 min...

we won't be moving for probably 2 years but I'm doing research anyway, cause I'm crazy. we both like Manayunk (from what we've seen online). it sounds like parts of east Atlanta, so that's a good thing.

real estate is mixed there between fixer upper affordable and expensive. People are moving in to the area and some places are nice.. that is where real estate has gone up.. you are right along the ell line and there is crime but no place is perfect.. it's definitely an area that they are looking to make a better place to live but you really got to explore it yourself. I know people that have moved there and been very happy but it's not an area I want to move to.. especially not as a...

1.5 hours from the ocean, 2 hours from NYC, it has a lot of history, and it's next to a river! it's perfect!

What info are you specifically looking for, it's not exactly the greatest part of Philly? It's above Northern Liberties and there are parts that are nice but lots of it not so nice..
