You could go to the finger lakes and do a wine tour. It's a little far from Syracuse but it's a fun outing.
I agree...and it's only about an hour drive from Syracuse, but definitely worth it.

Saratoga Springs is nice, but it's a little far from Syracuse - about 2.5 hours.
And, it will be packed in August because the horse track is open. Although, if you like horse racing, it is a beautiful track.
