Berlin is cheaper than Paris. Do you mind staying in hostels? I would recommend the Eastener Hostel in Berlin. Good location, clean and safe.

i will be arriving in Amsterdam feb. 10th. my friends want to travel from the 10th- 14th so we can make it back for this dj/music event in amsterdam. and we'll be there til the 23rd/24th. so basically....we have 4 days- so it will be a short trip to berlin/paris

When will you be in Berlin? They are having the Berlinale (Berlin Film Festival) from Feb 5-15, so it might be hard to find rooms and stuff.

i really want to go to paris but my friends said it was too expensive.....has anybody gone on a budget & managed ok??

thank you so much for the links!! does anybody know if it's super expensive in Berlin? or where to go if we chose that route? my friends said that it has a lot of clubs....

Oh and if you're wanting to look up train times, use www.bahn.de
Just click on the English tab and you'll find your way around no problem.

You can catch the ICE trains - InterCity Express - between all the major European cities. I spent 2 summers backpacking Europe with a rail pass so I have a fairly intimate knowledge of the rail system, probably best if you give me more specific questions

I am pretty sure I caught a train from Amsterdam to Munich to get to Salzburg. It's a long journey. If you fancy Germany, Hamburg is closer and has a good nightlife.

the trains in western europe are quite expensive. Try to search for some bus transport companies... I never travelled between those two cities, so I cannot give you advice which company right now... but it's generally cheaper to go by bus...

I'm going to be in Amsterdam in February to stay with some friends & we were going to visit another neighboring country that wouldn't be a ridiculous amount of travel time & reasonably priced. I was thinking Berlin- since they have an active night life there but I hear that the train takes 6-8 hrs. <--which I guess we wouldn't have a problem with if we can't find anything cooler or less expensive. Has anyone taken a train from Amsterdam & gone to any neighboring...
